Parsha Shiur Pinchas 5785

Parshas Pinchas contains Hashem’s instructions to Moshe and Elazar to count the Jews again. Rashi provides 2 reasons for this Divine instruction at this point.

Baal Haturim calls out attention, to 2 seemingly superfluous words the Torah uses as it lists the names of the tribes and their families. Baal Haturim says, these words indicate something that will befall the Jews in the future. ירבעם בן נבט would one day be coronated over 10 of the Jewish tribes in Northern Israel as they break away from the Davidic dynasty. But, their king would lead them down a path of idol worship that even lead to their exile and apparent complete destruction.

This Shiur also explores in depth the most enigmatic Mishnah in Pirkei Avos. The Mishnah that contrasts Moshe Rabbeinu and Yeravam.
