Today, I’m going to give you my tips for making it through this holiday without having any “guilt” AT ALL and without arguing at the dinner table about all the things that people argue about these days. The goal is to help you leave this episode armed and ready for your thanksgiving day so that you can walk out happy!
First things first here is a healthier ish twist on the sweet potato casserole! Ready…it’s super simple to remember! Bake your sweet potato for 30-40 minutes until soft. Take it out of the oven and cut it in half. Place the halves on a baking dish and put 1/2 tsp EVOO on top along with some nutmeg and cinnamon. THEN place a few like 6-8 mini marshmallows on top, place it back in the oven for 5-8 minutes and BOOM a personalized sized sweet potato casserole. No butttah needed!
So, my first tip is to get that workout done first thing. We are less likely to blow our food regimen during the day when we workout first thing in the morning. FACTS.
Next tip is to LOAD up on water. Be sure to alternate between your adult beverage of choice and water or just go all water and maybe some seltzer, but make water a priority. You’ll be fuller longer and you’ll feel better on Friday!
For the love of Pete, do not skip breakfast. Have a healthy breakfast like oatmeal with berries, whole grain toast avocado toast and an egg…something healthy, but don’t save your calories for dinner. That is a SURE FIRE way to overeat at dinner. The goal is to enjoy, not stuff like a turkey.
Okay…now dinner food tips! Go veggie heavy, but be careful with the serving sizes of the casserole type veggies…I think that goes without saying, but WITH THAT SAID, enjoy some of the casseroles too if those are you jam this one time a year! Deprivation doesn’t serve anyone anything good, so yes, enjoy, but keep your goals in mind. Will you wake up tomorrow regretting anything? No? Then have some!
EAT DESSERT just not every dessert! I know, it’s tempting. If you’re looking for the healthiest of the ones typically available, go for pumpkin as the pumpkin is loaded with nutrients. Just limit the whipped cream.
And now…the actual DINNER TABLE tips: have a rule before dinner even begins…heck before people even arrive that you will not discuss..ohhh sayyyy political topics presuming you have people of opposing opinions in the house.
