  • The Heavyist #244 Kublai Khan / 156/Silence
It's that time again! That's right time to get your dose of weekly worship at the altar of radness
this week Gary and Sonny HAD to gather to talk about 2 of our favourite bands from the metalcore scene in 2024, these bands go from strength to strength and they do it on their own terms
Kublai Khan release their 6th studio album and show no signs of slowing down
156/Silence have one of the most unique sounds of all of their peers and hopefully it's their time to get recognised for it!

  • The Heavyist #243 Many Eyes
It's a big one for us Heavyist Boys - Every Time I Die are one of the single most important bands to us so when Keith's new project Many Eyes put out their debut we had to convene early to discuss it, does it hold up? Are we happy with the direction that he has taken? You'll have to tune in to find out!
Also we discuss the return of Linkin Park with their new singer and how we think it will go
then in AOR Gary has been listening to some Electro-Punk from Fat Dog and Sonny has found his "in" with Slam with the new record from PeelingFlesh
00:00 - Many Eyes - The Light Age
28:29 - Brutal News - The Return of Linkin Park

  • The Heavyist #242 Depths / The Killing of a Sacred Deer
This week on the show we are putting dinner plates in our earlobes and dying our fringes jet black as we talk about 2 new releases from the world of Deathcore!
New Zealand based heavy bastards Depths bring the atmosphere and the groove with their 5th studio album
and NEW NEW band The Killing of a Scared Deer from Canada have an EP of throwback deathcore that's going to take years off your life

  • The Heavyist #241 Nails / Concrete Winds
We're "MAD FER IT" this week (well Sonny is anyway) as we have yet another stacked bag of riffs to chat about.
It's a grindcore party here on the Heavyist as we have 2 hard and fast ragers to talk about
NAILS are BACK! Have they managed to keep up the pace after 8 years? Has the completely new line-up had any effect on their ability to level cities with their potent brand of HM2 thick metallic grindcore? I guess you'll have to listen to find out ;)
Concrete Winds on paper might appear to be up against it releasing a grind record on the same day as Nails but we are here to tell you they don't need to worry!
then we take a RARE divergence into talking about records this week that we were disappointed by - we go into everything we talk about wanting to love it but occasionally this just isn't the case. The Number Twelve Looks Like You broke the mathcore internet with their "interesting" new single, Zeal and Ardor have made a shift and we're not sure why and algorithmic darlings of metalcore Thrown have a new album out that is akin to a piece of chewing gum.
    Chapters:
    00:00 - Intro - MAD FER IT
9:11 - Nails Every Bridge Burning
    23:25 - Concrete Winds - Concrete Winds
33:46 - Brutal News: The Number Twelve Looks Like You
    41:37 - Zeal & Ardor - Greif
    50:16 - Thrown - Excessive Guilt

  • The Heavyist #240 Nile / Trench
    We're BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK (again)
Sonny's been on paternity leave since his offspring joined the world but while the world's youngest Heavyist took a nap we managed to convene to worship at the altar of radness once more and have a good old catch up about amazing new jams and riffs that have also been birthed into the world!
We HAD to get together to discuss the frankly outstanding new album from everyone's favourite Egyptologist Technical Death Metal legends - NILE - Gary is a bit of a Nile N00b whereas Sonny is a bit more of a seasoned pro to the band so it was awesome to get the different perspectives on them
we also discuss the future-metal BANGER from Canadian metalcore band Trench with their amazing album released last week that will make you want to crowdkill a serverfarm
AOR comes from Gary in the form of Maine hardcore crew Gumskab and although Sonny hasn't had a lot of opportunity to listen to extra music he has been watching videos from A Darker Standard which sound very interesting!
    Chapters:
    00:00 - Introduction
16:20 - Nile - The Underworld Awaits Us All
    39:51 - Trench - Between Inverted Worlds
54:15 - AOR: Gumskab - Cut Your Teeth

  • The Heavyist #239 Any Other Riffness and Brutal News
This week on the show we're a little bit off the cuff - We weren't sure we would be making a show but we managed to pull a belter out of our asses.
We discussed the fact that movies are back with the new Deadpool & Wolverine movie
then after we finish doing the worlds worst Kermode and Mayo impression we return to the regularly scheduled programming of RIFFS
State Faults released a gamechanger in the world of Post Hardcore and Screamo, Gravemind prove that Modern Metalcore still has something to say, Polterguts released a bruiser of a 3 track, Spent Case are here to cause injuries
then Brutal News comes from Undeath and Better Lovers
Hereisaropegoodluck are flying way too far under the radar, hopefully we can sort that out and Defacement release one of the heaviest things we've ever heard
There won't be a show next week as Sonny will be too busy becoming a Dad so enjoy this episode for now and we will catch you again soon! Join the Discord! It's full of people sharing sick heavy music all the

  • The Heavyist #238 Tendrils / Summoning The Lich
Welcome Heavyists! This week on the show we have 2 absolutely glorious records to discuss, one from the UK Underground and one from some sort of fantasy realm!
We must start though with Brutal News! It's always a monumental day in the Heavyist calendar when Fit for an Autopsy announce a new album so we delayed the release of the show this week so we could talk about it - their new single Hostage out now.
Also after originally teasing it 4 years ago Glacial Tomb finally announce the release of their new album and judging but the new single, it's going to be worth the wait.
Then our main album discussions come in the shape of incredible mathcore savagery from UK crew Tendrils with their debut album - and Summoning the Lich follow up the wonderful United in Chaos with more tales of the eponymous Lich and it's journey through the underworld Join the Discord! • The Heavyist #235 200 Stab Wounds / The God Awful Truth
We're back now that the internet has stopped conspiring against us to deliver your (normally) weekly dose of worship at the altar of radness, riffs and general mucking about! After general random preambles as usual Gary discussed his trip to look at some riffs from one of the show's favourite bands The Acacia Strain
then we talked about one of our most highly anticipated records of the year - the sophomore album from Ohio Death Metal heroes 200 Stab Wounds is finally here and it's a phenomenal step up
also The God Awful Truth absolutely win us over with their new album of chaotic metalcore/mathcore from the homies of Dark Trail Records
