There is one specific type of salon that is the most difficult in the world to manage.

The type of salon I'm talking about is a "quiet one"!

We all go through those days or occasional weeks when we have quiet times.

This is completely normal because business always happens in cycles of being busier and then quieter. We have busier days and quieter days every week and we have busier months and quieter months every year.

But knowing this doesn't help with the frustration of having team members sat in the backroom, mindlessly surfing the web waiting for 5pm so they can go home.

We feel the low energy and boredom from our usually upbeat team.

So what can we do about it?

It's not easy to make a full book of guests suddenly appear from nowhere, but there is a way we can get the team engaged, inspired and excited about a "quiet" day in the salon.

This is a shorter than usual episode but it has a very important message! When we think about the time and energy we put into our team we tend to put the majority of energy into the team members that are under performing.

The team members that don't have the right work ethic and don't have a great attitude, tend to drain our time and efforts while the team members that are great performers ( our MVP'S) miss out.

This episode is a reminder of the importance to acknowledge the players that are really responsible for our business success.

Most people are fearful when they hear the word "disruption".

They think of unwanted changes and the pain of learning and adapting to something "new".

But if you are anything like me, when you hear there is a "disruption" about to happen it spells OPPORTUNITY!

You start to think about how this disruption can benefit me and if I'm an early implementor of this new system/strategy/skill, can I be ahead of the curve?

I believe that the salon industry is about to go through a huge (and much needed) disruption of the current way we sell retail products to our guests.

We have been complaining about online retail sales damaging our salon business since the internet was invented, so it's about time "the shift" happened and I feel that we ALL have the opportunity to greatly benefit!

This could be one of the most exciting changes we've seen in years!
