This "western"(jury is still out on that descriptor) takes us through the life of real-life outlaw Pat Crowe who was committing crimes left and fucking right throughout the early 1900's in The United States, Japan, South Africa, and Mexico. Amid the aggressive time jumps in this novel, we'll get to hear Annie’s hot take on Tevas, learn some true crime facts(a little bit of kidnapping, a little bit of art history) bear witness to Indy's rating-changing realization, and discover that there are too many Vincenzos to keep track of. This action/adventure novel takes place during the Great Depression and follows the Vagabonds, four orphans who take off in a canoe down the Gilead River. Along the way the kids encounter people from all walks of life who make a distinct impact on them. This prompts us to go on many tangents covering a wild array of topics; our distaste for corn on the cob, the level of disaster preparedness in our public school systems, Annie’s theory that everyone is a little bit psychic, and our shared love for sandwiches. As we weave in and out of the fabric of time, we discuss the age old question of “are people inherently good”? You’ll also get a glimpse into the lives of Baby Annie and Baby Indy. Disclaimer, we cried a lot during the reading of the book AND recording of this episode. A crime novel based in 1950’s Glasgow, this book follows career criminal Peter Manuel and well-to-do businessman William Watt(not to be confused with that human piece of garbage Christopher Watts, even though that's exactly what we did like 7 times) as the story unravels to expose who was responsible for the murders of Watt’s family. Join us for another trip through the Highbrary where we discuss an Oscar Mayer Wiener Rush, our completely unsolicited opinions on marriage, and spend an ungodly amount of time on Zac Efron’s acting ability.
