On Saturday April 26th 1986, the world was given a glimpse of just what Humanity’s flirtation with the atom could lead to when the no.4 reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant melted down. On November 17, 1986 Japan Airlines flight 1628 took off on the Iceland to Alaska leg of its journey. The Boeing 747 – 200f cargo plane was travelling from Paris France to Narita airport near Tokyo.
