The Hoosier Sound | IU Sports Podcast

Since 2020 has been a dumpster fire, the THS crew looks ahead to 2021 in IU sports. Speaking of 2021, over the weekend, Tom Allen landed a commitment from 2021 4-star WR Jaquez Smith, who chose Indiana over powerhouses like Alabama, Michigan, and Notre Dame. The guys break down what that means to IU and analyze 2021 recruiting for both football and men's basketball.

After getting excited about the new conference-only football schedule that came out this week, everything came to a grinding halt today. The Big Ten was the first Power 5 conference to announce the postponement of Fall sports, including football, at least until this coming Spring. The guys welcome Matt back to the podcast with a sad episode now that there officially will be no Hoosier football this Fall. This could not only have an immediate effect on the team, but could also hurt the Hoosiers long-term. The guys talk about the current scenario and how they will get through podcasting this Fall without a football season.

Sports are officially back! The MLB started over a week ago, but this past weekend re-opened successful NBA and NHL seasons. There are quite a few Hoosiers that are restarting in the NBA Bubble, so the guys take a look at how the former Hoosiers are starting back up in Florida. In addition to our former Hoosier talk, the guys start to scratch the surface on how the Big Ten might shape up this season now that many of the players are officially committing to the NBA Draft or coming back to school.

It's the final week of July and we are moving into the final month before (hopefully) college sports start back up at the end of August and the beginning of September. This week, we move into the Junior class for both IUBB and IUFB. A few weeks ago, the guys talked about the contributors for the Freshman and Sophomore classes for both programs. This week, they move into the Junior class to talk about key players and who will have an impact on the upcoming season. Who will have the biggest impact from this particular class? Who is an athlete that fans may be overlooking? All this, and more on the latest edition of "The Hoosier Sound."

Big news came down last week that the Big Ten (closely followed by the Pac-12) opted to move to a conference-only schedule for all fall sports of 2020. Every Big Ten fall sports program in 2020 will be facing opponents within the same conference, eliminating non-conference scheduling across the country. This is a response to COVID-19, as football season is rapidly approaching and national cases are starting to climb for a second time. How does this change affect the Hoosier football team for 2020? Although the announcement was made, there are still a lot of details to figure out, so how might the schedule specifically look when the season possibly starts in a month and a half?
