David... DAVID A COUNTDOWN TO WHAT?! 

This week the team celebrates the 4th of July a little bit later but it's for a good cause. After all, Independence Day (1996) can be enjoyed year round. James Brizuela & Phil Acevedo guest this week for a team up on truly epic proportions. The team recounts their EXTENSIVE love of this movie, it was basically love from movie theater for everyone (Alix was a little too young to see it in theaters but we can't blame her for that). An episode chock full of movie quotes and a ton of mispronunciations somehow, you don't want to miss this.

Alix's birthday month extravaganza comes to its conclusion with THE film that ushered in the era of anime in America, and maybe started a genre? It sure was bloody, we're talking about Katsuhiro Otomo's 1988 classic AKIRA.

We take a look at the history of the manga (it took 8 years to finish), how the adaptation (also from Otomo) slowly caught on world wide, and why the live action adaptation has failed so many times! We're joined by fellow Akira fan and longtime guest Phil Acevedo to throw in as many impressions and insights as possible! If you haven't seen it, it's streaming right now! The team discuss some of the largest U.S cities, strange and thankfully removed plot lines, and that pesky foreign film to U.S adaptation pipeline and why it sucks.

Oh boy, this one... well, eesh. The team celebrates Alix's bday with possibly the most disturbing film they've covered yet, complete with lots of mispronounced French names. That's right, we're talking about Pascal Laugier's MARTYRS from 2008!

Anthony writes his first play by play since season 1, so spoilers all around along with details our thoughts on some truly disturbing (and well shot) imagery. Why do the stars of this film never want to work with the director again? How did the French government get involved in the release of this film? And people crying at Cannes? Yeah, this one was CONTROVERSIAL.

Now how about some 5 star reviews for your hosts' birthday? We watched the movie FOR YOU (but seriously, advise with caution)!

It's June! That means the Cicadas are waking up...and it's Alix's birhday month! We're kicking it off with the underrated movie Digging Up the Marrow from 2014. It's a real love letter to the horror genre with some AMAZING practical effects. There are some.... differing opinions though. Strap in, it's going to be a wild month.

Wes Craven is a mad man. This week the team takes a look at how a proven director risked it all on an original idea that changed the horror genre forever. Also, has a pretty sweet theme song. That's right, we're talking about the landmark film A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET from the legendary Wes Craven.

Join us as we showcase a transitional time in the director's career, where he changed the course of horror by sheer originality, all with the help of a struggling studio and a striped sweater. Opinions are... divided? Certainly different. But the the team agrees on one thing for sure: steak knife fingers is a pretty terrifying teenager extermination device. Oh, and dreams.

Now how about a 5 star rating for a debuting Johnny Depp in a crop top? OH AND A TERRIFFYING LULLABY.

Alix's new catchphrase for her picks... Not Niche Enough! The team is covering Sion Sono's 2001 movie SUICIDE CLUB! And while this movie is wild and GRAPHIC the team admire it's bravery and honestly... everything about it. 

Seriously though, not recommending for the faint of heart, but if you're feeling up to it and auteur films are your thing... this needs to be on your list immediately!
