Most introverts are more comfortable with one-on-one interaction than we are speaking in front of large groups. That’s why Lucy Griffiths coaches her clients to imagine making a connection through the camera lens with a single person. And that’s how Lucy navigated her 20-year career as a reporter interviewing presidents, politicians and A-listers the likes of Nicole Kidman, Barack Obama and Tony Blair.
Today Lucy serves as a video strategist and coach, leveraging her career in journalism and Masters in Coaching to help female entrepreneurs get confident on camera and grow their businesses with video. She works in a very positive and gentle way to support clients in increasing brand visibility, making authentic connections, and harnessing the power of video.
On this episode of Introvert Biz Growth, Lucy shares the story of her transition from television reporting in conflict zones like North Korea and Iraq to online coaching. She explains her inclination to ‘slink in a corner,’ describing how she navigates new environments and networking events. Lucy addresses her technique for teaching introverts to gain confidence on camera and shares the parallels between training journalists and entrepreneurs. Listen in and learn how Lucy leverages meditation to achieve calm in a stressful world and what book inspired her to become an entrepreneur.

If your business is just one of many things going on in your life, it can be discouraging to compare yourself to other entrepreneurs who can devote more time—and grow more quickly. Julienne DesJardins argues that the best way to avoid those comparisons is to focus on the metrics you set for yourself and take pride in the business you have built.
Julienne is the mompreneur behind DesJardins Digital. She serves as a strategist for small business owners and aspiring freelancers, helping her clients design and implement email and social media marketing campaigns. She also supports new freelancers and VAs through coaching and strategy calls. Julienne is a Certified ConvertKit Expert with digital marketing expertise, and she holds a master’s in public administration.
Today, Julienne shares how she transitioned from the nonprofit world to that of freelancing. She walks us through her business model, explaining the benefits of shifting from one-off projects to retainer clients. Julienne discusses the pros and cons of being able to work independently for long periods of time as well as the way she schedules her day with respect to her natural rhythm. Listen in for Julienne’s insight around recognizing your value as an entrepreneur and measuring success by your own standards.

“[Presenting to large groups] excites me and terrifies me in equal measure, but ... it’s worth smashing through your comfort zone.”
Self-promotion can be difficult for introverts, especially those of us who happened to grow up in a culture without Show & Tell. We’ve been taught to be humble, to avoid exaggeration. So how do we learn to take advantage of opportunities to share our talents, grow into a more forward-facing role, and make a significant impact?
Jennifer Corcoran spent 20-plus years helping other people shine as a personal assistant, executive assistant and office manager before back surgery gave her the time and space to reflect—and that’s when My Super Connector was born. Through her business, Jennifer helps professionals, entrepreneurs and businesses increase their online presence, implement a social media strategy, and maximize their credibility and brand integrity. Jennifer has been recognized as CV Magazines’ Social Media Consultant of the Year, WeAreTheCitys’ Rising Star, and ‘Queen of Social Media’ by Eventopedia and Executive Secretary Magazine.
Today, Jennifer shares how she went from social media novice to online branding authority, building a business in the digital space where she feels most comfortable. She walks us through her business model, discussing her surprise in enjoying one-to-one consulting and workshops over strategy audits. Jennifer offers insight around her strengths in writing blog and social posts as well as the challenges she faces in promoting herself to secure new clients. Listen in to understand why Jennifer is pushing herself to take advantage of public speaking opportunities and increase her impact as an introverted entrepreneur!

“Ten thousand Twitter followers won’t help you when you’re broken down on the side of the road. But a few good friends will.”
The introverted tendency to build deep relationships with just a few people may seem like a disadvantage when it comes to marketing a business. But Tom Schwab argues that the tools of technology allow us to build meaningful relationships and establish trust while reaching hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands of potential customers—through podcast interviews.
Tom is the founder of Interview Valet, a concierge-level Podcast Interview Marketing service that helps small business owners, entrepreneurs and solopreneurs get featured on leading podcasts in their area of expertise, targeting prospective clients and turning listeners into leads. Tom sees marketing as a conversation, and he contends that podcasts are the ideal format for introverted entrepreneurs who excel in building meaningful relationships: Share your heart with the host, and reach a much wider audience in the process!
Today, Tom shares how his experience in the Navy led to a love of connecting with other people. He explains the impetus behind Interview Valet, discussing how the service allows entrepreneurs to get in on the conversations their ideal customers are already having. Tom describes how his ability to listen and remember puts people at ease, why he builds in time to recharge at conferences, and how he invests in himself through a consistent morning routine. He also offers insight around how Play Bigger taught him to focus on being different rather than trying to compete with others. Listen in and learn how Tom seeks to learn something from every person he meets, embracing the idea that what’s ordinary to you is extraordinary to others!

‘I was so bad at sales, I had to learn marketing!’
How do you initiate conversations and make connections—when approaching people isn’t your thing? Self-described introvert Milana Leshinsky brilliantly positions herself as a center of influence, and the people come to her. Though it surprises some to hear it, Milana actually creates her own events so that she doesn’t have to compete for attention, but simply attracts the people who respect her as an expert in the realm of online business.
Milana came to the United States from Soviet Ukraine 25 years ago as a classical musician. She started her first business as a web designer so that she could work from home while she raised her children, and went on to become a serial entrepreneur, inventing the telesummit and building a million-dollar coaching business. But when she began to suffer from anxiety, she knew it was time to take a step back and reflect.
Milana made the difficult decision to walk away from the business, handing the reins over to her co-founder. She spent the next 12 months figuring out what drives her and designing her new venture, Simplicity Circle. Now she is leading a simplicity revolution for coaches, authors, speakers and entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses with ease. Milana helps people identify their talents and design a business around their natural tendencies, so that her clients make money just by being themselves!
Today, Milana discusses the role introversion played in her decision to pursue online entrepreneurship and the way she designs events to accommodate introverts. She shares her understanding of simplicity as a question of alignment and the value of employing the right business model for your personality type. Milana offers insight around the significance of spaciousness, the way she uses Facebook Live as a teaching tool, and the telesummit as an ideal format for introverted entrepreneurs. Listen in and learn how to get around the discomfort of networking by establishing yourself as an authority in your field.

Most introverts are quite good at communicating with others and connecting with people on a deeper level. But how do you cope when that ability starts to feel overwhelming? When other people’s energy starts to intrude on your own? When you wish you could just care a little bit less?
Sensei Victoria Whitfield was born an empath. Naturally intuitive, she has always been sensitive to the emotional energy of others. But a gift like Victoria’s can come with some negative repercussions, and for years, she suffered from severe depression and emotional overwhelm. 11 years ago, she committed to studying reiki and meditation as part of a personal healing journey. As friends and family noticed a positive change in Victoria, she began to share the reiki techniques as a hobby. Eventually, a business-minded mentor encouraged her to make her passion a profession, and she has been practicing full-time since 2013.
Victoria’s business, Natural Intuition, seeks to educate and empower driven, heart-centered entrepreneurs and corporate professionals to create the life of clarity, confidence and calm they crave via holistic stress management techniques like reiki and meditation. Today she explains the fundamentals of reiki, discussing how the practice helped her cope with emotional overwhelm. She gets into the details of her business model, sharing her integrated approach to working with individuals, groups and teams both on and offline.
Victoria covers her greatest strength as an introverted entrepreneur, the ability to listen and observe, as well as her biggest challenge, that of being a ‘control enthusiast.’ And she offers advice around developing a consistent daily ritual and leveraging digital tools for accountability. Listen in and learn to use the gift of empathy without losing yourself in the process.

‘Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race.’
--Calvin Coolidge
Both of Calvin Correli’s parents were programmers when there were only five computers in all of Denmark, so it is no surprise that he learned programming early. As an introvert, he took solace in the predictability of computers and went on to study computer science. In May of 2010, he founded Simplero, an all-in-one software solution for coaches, authors and speakers who want to sell courses and content online. Calvin’s SaaS platform does email marketing, automation, billing, landing pages, and even offers a complete website solution.
Beyond Simplero, Calvin pursues music, spirituality and personal development. In his business and personal interests, he sees persistence and consistency as the key to his growth and achievement. Today Calvin explores the cultural differences between his home country of Denmark and his current home in the US, discussing why he appreciates the talkative nature of Americans despite his introversion. He explains how his experience with marketing online courses led to the creation of Simplero and how the platform generates revenue. Calvin speaks to his introverted strengths and weaknesses, sharing how his resistance to reach out presents a challenge, while his discipline to stick with a project for the long haul contributes to his success. Listen in for Calvin’s insight around music, online security and developing a consistent routine.

The introvert’s ability to listen and truly empathize with others makes us good entrepreneurs. How so? Well, the best way to improve a product or service is to sit down with your customers and have a conversation, to gain an understanding what is and isn’t working and respond accordingly. In fact, that is how Interact Quiz Builder became the user-friendly platform it is today.
Josh Haynam grew up poor in Central Valley during the height of the recession. Inspired to do something different to earn an income, he started his own business installing lawns at the age of fifteen. Though the work was difficult, he loved the act of creating something out of nothing, and Josh’s entrepreneurial spirit was born. In college Josh joined forces with a friend experienced in web design, and they started a business building websites. When a client asked them to create a quiz for lead generation and it realized a remarkable 75% conversion rate, Josh knew they were on to something.
Interact Quiz Builder was founded in January of 2014 and four years later, the tool is used by more than 30,000 businesses including The American Red Cross, Tony Robbins, and Forbes. Today Josh shares the evolution of Interact Quiz Builder, explaining its subscription model and how emotional intelligence and active listening led to product improvement. He discusses his particular challenge as an empathic introvert who wants to make everyone happy—in a world where that’s just not possible. Listen in for Josh’s advice around learning from people who are ‘a few steps ahead’ on the path you want to take.
