“We hear growing up … that being extroverted is better for whatever reason, and we tend to think of introversion as something that’s less. But if we can just embrace that instead and go, ‘Yeah, this is who I am. It’s okay for me to be this way. Not only is it okay, but I actually have gifts that are different than yours—and all I have to do is learn to use them.”
Michelle Shaeffer is an international speaker and author at Girl Blogger Next Door. She is passionate about helping mission-driven entrepreneurs build profitable businesses that make a positive impact on the world. An expert in the area of content marketing and online lead generation, Michelle is also the creator of the HookLine Dynamic app. She has written 42 blog posts in a single day, mentored more the 15K bloggers through the Ultimate Blog Challenge, and published more than 1K posts on her own blogs.
Today, Michelle explains how she learned to make introversion work for her rather than using it as an excuse. She discusses how the pen name she used as a protection mechanism became the brand for her online business and how she accidentally discovered the power of blogging to reach potential clients. Michelle describes how she overcomes her reluctance to speak on stage or talk about herself by focusing on how she can serve others. Listen in for Michelle’s insight on learning to embrace your introversion and use your gifts to do big things!

Marketing is a necessary part of any online business, but the approach is entirely up to you. In fact, if you want to be successful, it is important to find your own marketing voice and design a method that works with your introversion rather than against it. The ‘get known’ method of constant networking and speaking on stages isn’t for everyone, and there are countless other ways to attract clients that don’t involve collecting business cards or making hundreds of phone calls. Thank goodness!
After the birth of her third child in 2012, Michelle Evans walked away from a position in global marketing strategy at Microsoft to start her own marketing consultancy. Today, she focuses on helping entrepreneurs go from ‘simply surviving to predictably SOLD OUT’ by way of marketing funnels and Facebook ads. Michelle also serves as the host of the Marketing Funnel Show podcast.
On this episode of Introvert Biz Growth, Michelle shares the story of getting involved in the wrong mastermind and trying to fit the mold of the extroverted marketer. She explains how getting back to her roots and building a sales funnel turned her business around—and taught her to trust her gut. Michelle describes her strength in helping clients find their own authentic marketing voice and the tools she uses to streamline client communication. Listen in for Michelle’s insight on carving out the time to work ON your business (before taking care of clients) and learn how to define the marketing voice that works for you!

Is there a place for intuition when it comes to decision-making for business? Or should we rely solely on the spreadsheets? Val Nelson contends that the best way forward is to merge the two, tapping into our hearts for guidance, then confirming our instincts with focus groups and cold, hard data. This balance creates a sense of flow and an ease in determining next steps that can be of great benefit to us as introverted entrepreneurs. In fact, it’s how Val came to create her business.
Val is known as The Black Swan Coach, a mentor for fellow introverted solopreneurs. She specializes in helping heart-centered women create the sustainable, fulfilling and relaxing lives they really want through business and life coaching and courses that teach her clients to bring their unique gifts to the world. Val is also a sought-after speaker and facilitator, having presented at Harvard Business School, the Women’s Business Conference, and UMass School of Business, among many others.
Today, Val explains why we make the biggest impact when we show up as our unique selves. She shares Black Swan’s three main revenue streams, including her newly minted course around using intuition in business decision-making. Val offers insight around her ability to see the genius in others as well as the challenges she faces by getting tangled in overthinking. She also speaks to the turning point when she identified her niche as a business and life coach for introverts, despite skepticism from friends and colleagues. Listen in for Val’s advice on leveraging co-writing groups for motivation, taking care of our energy with guided meditation, and engaging logic AND intuition to uncover our true purpose.

Do you have the grit to keep pushing outside your comfort zone on a consistent basis? Networking and sales rarely make the introverted entrepreneur’s list of ‘favorite things,’ but we do have strengths that can be leveraged to succeed at both—if we push ourselves and exercise the right approach.
Melitta Campbell had just received a promotion at Europe’s largest bank when she left the corporate world to spend more time with her newborn daughter. She built a thriving career as a freelance writer, and things were going well… Until they weren’t. Melitta realized that she was still trading time for money, and the stress of working on projects for some of the world’s largest organizations and up-and-coming entrepreneurs was impacting her health.
That’s when Melitta started her home-based wellness business, selling the very products that helped her to regain her own vitality. Today, she has added a coaching element to her business model, and she is empowering other women to enjoy more income, balance and fulfillment through home-based businesses. Melitta is also the author of The Shy Girls Guide to Networking, and she shares health, self-development and home business tips and inspiration through her blog and public speaking engagements.

How does showing up as your authentic self help attract ideal clients?
When I started this podcast in May of 2016, my intention was to run it as a side hustle along with coaching for introverts while maintaining my core business as a LinkedIn expert. Nearly two years later, I am celebrating 50 conversations with other introverted entrepreneurs that have translated to business opportunities and several genuine friendships. But I was starting to feel like I was hiding the introverted part of myself on a separate website, and my LinkedIn clients were sometimes confused by my online presence as the host of Introvert Biz Growth…
So, I have decided to become whole again—and today I am unveiling my new branding as Sarah Santacroce, the introverted entrepreneur who specializes in LinkedIn. Both parts of my business will be housed at the website bearing my name, and this transparency will help attract ideal clients and lead to deeper connections with the people I coach.
This is all part of my new motto: What if it was easy? What if it was fun? Listen in as I explain this pivot in my business, discussing the difficult choices I’ve made around letting go of some projects and taking on others, including a LinkedIn Local event that I’m cohosting this year!

Introverts tend to run up against roadblocks when we are put in situations that require self-promotion. Tassey Russo spent years representing corporations, and she had no problem asking C-level executives for money and resources in that role. But when she started her own entrepreneurial venture, awkwardness and anxiety ruled the day when it came time to market herself. Tassey questioned, "Will they buy me?"
So, what's an introvert to do? Tassey developed a step-by-step process for navigating sales conversations, and she began to thrive. 13 years later, she remains at the helm of Level Up Solutions, a coaching and consulting firm that provides business development and online marketing strategy to entrepreneurs and small businesses looking to reach the next level of growth.
Today, Tassey shares the story of her bold move to New York City after college and the desire for connection that inspired her to create her own business. She discusses the difference between selling a brand and selling yourself, explaining why she struggled with marketing her business despite an absolute confidence in her abilities and how she overcame this challenge with a process around initiating sales conversations. Tassey offers insight into the 14-month journey of self-discover that led to a rebrand of her business this past October and a new focus on supporting clients in evolutionary growth. Listen in and learn about Tassey's newfound love of storytelling on stage and the online publishing platform where she is creating a community around her writing.
