Creativity and Art; is it genetic or is it from being exposed to it our whole lives? That's the real question we explore while recording on the family yacht in The Bahamas.

Olivia (a wildlife and travel photographer) and Pat (a Marine Corps veteran) introduce the episode with Olivia's sister Alexa, her dad, Scott, and her mom, Sharon Jacobs.

Alexa explains her path from underpainting for their dad, Scott to finding a looser, more textured style, describing how deadlines and high-volume gallery demands affected her inspiration and how leaving that situation helped her reconnect with making art.

Scott recounts early signs of Alexa’s talent, his own creative development (including his early influences owning an art gallery at 19, adopting the name “Escotete” for unbiased feedback on his paintings, and later leaning into photorealism after becoming the first licensed artist by Harley-Davidson in 1993.

He emphasizes persistence and making connections to succeed as an artist as well as a love for creating

.Sharon describes her creativity through interior design and organization, as well as having two parents that were artists. 

The group discusses how travel and environment influence inspiration. Olivia shares her imposter syndrome about not enjoying painting and the moment she found her calling as a photographer.

They talk about creative blocks, stepping away rather than forcing work, experimenting with mediums, and the future of art with AI-generated art.

Navigating Life's Fire... literally!

Pat and I discuss the struggles we've encountered since being displaced because of a house fire AND it all happening right before the holidays.

Pat explains his ability to emotionally suppress his feelings when something traumatic happens. He shares how it applies in this situation and I give him a hard time for bottling up his emotions.

We discuss more on how we're managing stress, handling daily challenges, and maintaining somewhat of a routine in our temporary living situation.

Episode 20: Exploring Photography with Olivia Jacobs

In this episode of The Hunter and Hippie Podcast, hosts Pat Kaiser and Olivia Jacobs discuss Olivia's journey into photography.

She recounts receiving her first Nikon camera as a high school graduation gift and the initial challenges of capturing what she saw versus what the camera saw.

The desire to capture imagery really began in 2014 when she took her (now old) Nikon to Glacier National Park and discovered how low the resolution really was.

That following year, her ex husband gifted her a new camera - an entry-level Canon Rebel T6i. From there, she began exploring Photographers on YouTube with whom she could learn from.

The episode continues on her journey investing in better equipment and continuing to educate herself through YouTube tutorials and trial and error. She provides insights into the technical aspects of photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings in more layman's terms.

She shares her experiences from her first significant photography trip to a more recent upgrade to a Canon R6.

The episode also covers essential gear for new photographers and offers tips for getting started. Olivia emphasizes the importance of patience, curiosity, and slowing down to appreciate and capture the beauty around us.
