In this episode, Larry and I talk about some of the recent realizations we have had about hunting in hill country. As we learn more about hunting deer in big timber settings we continue to get better at anticipating specific bedding areas. But we often push too far and ultimately spook the deer before we even get a chance to setup on them or stalk them. As last season ended my mission was to do my best to get a better understanding of why we made that mistake and how we could prevent the mistake during the offseason and into this season. After discussing the success and the failure we have had in the last several years we have come up with new strategies for these areas that will hopefully help us stay in the game more often without pushing too far and bumping deer. Larry and I talk about different strategies for both archery and firearm seasons and hopefully you can learn from what we believe has been our biggest mistake when hunting the hills!

This year was our second year making the trip up to New York to try tracking down a buck in the snow. Getting experience trying a new tactic is a ton of fun but we also enjoy sharing camp with other hunters that spend more time hunting these areas every year than we do to talk hunting and learn from each others experiences. In this episode, Warb, Ted, Greg, and I talk about overlooked buck bedding tendencies in hill country. Hunting a lot of different areas over the last few years we have experienced bedding tendencies that often don't get mentioned in most buck bedding conversations. Often times buck bedding is described by specific winds and terrain features but in our experience in a lot of situations buck beds are not limited to those specific spots. It seems that bucks utilize different areas based off of food sources, wind, and cover and those areas don't always end up being on the leeward wind side of a hill on the upper third.

In this episode, Keith and I talk to our new friends Mitch and Tate about their experiences growing up hunting in Minnesota. In this episode, I catch up with Beau Martonik. Beau hunts the big woods of Pennsylvania and also travels to hunt other states in big woods settings. In the middle of October, for the most part, conditions are hot, deer movement is low, and big buck sightings are few and far between. In this episode, Jake, Hayden and I talk about when we like to get aggressive throughout the "October Lull." To increase our odds we try to find fresh sign and wait for specific conditions to move into bedding areas to try to intercept small moments that mature bucks are making during daylight hours.
