The Ian Furness Show

Could changes be coming to the athletic program at Eastern Washington? A new study conducted by some university faculty seem to be suggesting things may evolve. EWU's athletic director Lynn Hickey joins us to tell us why athletics matter, not just in Cheney but at all colleges, and why the Eagles' famous football team isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Chuck and Buck have been in Peoria all week covering Spring Training. Chuck Powell fills us in on the latest from their most recent interviews with John Stanton, Julio Rodriguez, and Jarred Kelenic. We play back some of the interview with the prospects from this morning's show if you missed it. Dick Fain drops in to talk about the Eastern Washington story.

Yet again, another baseball player has made statements against the Astros. This time, the Braves' Nick Markakis says everyone from that Houston team "beating a beating" Baseball may have a big problem on its hands. Players who spoke up were given immunity, but there has to be some way to institute some sort of punishment. Even preventing them from being a part of the All Star Game for a few years would be something. The college basketball tournament is now just a month away. Are there really no great teams this year? Gary Parrish explains what's different. Highlights from around hockey on our Daily Power Play. Every day at 1:50, we find an uplifting story to brighten your day on Something Good.

What happens when the NBA starts drafting kids out of high school? It seems inevitable, but will they have systems in place to develop the young athletes as players, and as men? Chuck and Buck are hanging out in Peoria all week as Mariners Spring Training kicks off. We check in with Bucky Jacobsen to get his initial thoughts. The morning show talked with Kyle Lewis earlier today, and we've got the highlights. Breaking news: Greg Olsen has signed with the Seahawks for $7 million in a one-year deal, $5.5 million guaranteed. Is this the right move? We talk with Dick Fain about it.

Each Tuesday through the tournament, CBS Sports college football analyst Gary Parrish joins Ian courtesy of No-Li Brew House, makers of Born and Raised IPA, and Big Juicy IPA. No-Li is your local, family-owned brewery. Washington made from Washington ingredients.

Yes, it is Presidents' Day and we are here live covering everything happening in the world of sports: Dayton 500 is actually taking place, the Dragons win again, Mariners are in Peoria, and the Astros saga continues. The Astros organization jus tcan't seem to figure out how to handle this publicly without digging themselves into a deeper hole. So we know how fans across the country have reacted to the sign stealing scandal; how are Astros fans reacting to their own team cheating? We find out from SportsTalk 790's Matt Thomas. We've got news and highlights from around the NHL this weekend on our Daily Power Play everyday at 1:45. Sixteen-year-old Jackson Howell got back on the ice after an injury for the Thunderbirds' Hockey Challenge on Saturday.

This year, the NBA tried to switch things up at the All Star Game. It might not be perfect, but the concept was interesting. Ian still wasn't into it, and maybe it's because of an overall lack of interest, but a lot of it probably involves bitterness over the loss of our team. The M's have gotten things underway at Spring Training in Peoria and Chuck and Buck are down there all this week checking things out. Chuck Powell tells us what he's watching for while he's there over the next few days. XFL ratings continues to be pretty good here in Seattle, but can they succeed nationally? Dick Fain previews the afternoon show with Ben Obomanu.
