The Ian Furness Show

It's the last show before the Fourth, and Ian is down at Jimmy's on First before tonight's M's game, because why not? The US Women's National Team is headed to the Finals, and likely another victory, but the team has taken a lot of heat. The rest of the world seems to bristle at the team's attitude, and some at home aren't happy with Megan Rapinoe's politics, but is all of this drama potentially still good for the game? The Athletic's Matt Pentz joins us to discuss the polarizing team, plus equal pay for the national teams and the NWSL, the state of the MLS, and thoughts on today's Sounders match against MYC FC.

Corey Brock of The Athletic stops by Jimmy's on First for his weekly Mariners check-in; this week discussing Dan Vogelbach's breakout season, his story on Kelenic's first trip to Seattle, potential trades, and more. On Something Good (moved to 2:50 today): We raised a grand total of $2,250 from yesterday's auction for the final spots at the Mayor of Maple Valley Open. Thanks to everyone who got involved. Here we are again, July 2, the eleventh anniversary of the worst day in Seattle sports history. It's important to take a few minutes every year and remember what happened, and how we ended up where we are; without an NBA team. The voice of the Jazz, and former voice of the Sonics David Locke reflects on the 2008 debacle, plus thoughts on a chaotic NBA off-season. The US Women's Team defeated England 2-1 today. While the play has been top notch in this tournament, the officiating has been questionable at times. Is now the time ot have a discussion about pay for USWNT? It's surprising that the NWSL doesn't at least have a television deal. Longtime Seattle Times writer Steve Kelley reflects on the events that led to the Sonics being ripped away from Seattle, on the eleventh anniversary of the worst day in Seattle sports history. Texts on 49451 with thoughts on Key Arena. Softy is at Jimmy's on First, as bidding on the final two spots in the Mayor of Maple Valley Open continues.

Terry Blount is back again today from San Diego as Ian has another day off. NBA free agency has officially begun, and the Brooklyn Nets appear to be the place to be this upcoming season, with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and DeAndre Jordan are all choosing Brooklyn over the Knicks, which is driving Knicks fans crazy. The next big question, where is Kawhi Leonard going to go? Dan Vogelbach has been named as the Mariners' sole all-star, which seems odd for a guy hitting .244, but with his power, he's shown his value. It is a little surprising that Domingo Santana, leading the AL in RBI's, didn't seem to get so much as a look from voters. On Something Good, after a tragic plane crash that killed his girlfriend and parents over a decade ago, golfer Nate Lashley finds success.

Bill Krueger, ROOT Sports senior baseball analyst joins us every Monday to talk all things Mariners courtesy of Venue Kings. Today, Bill and Terry discuss the All Star Game, Vogey makes it, but Santana and Narvaez don't, plus thoughts on Austin Adams, and breaking news of pitcher Tyler Skaggs passing away suddenly. Huge moves are taking place in the NBA as free agency gets underway, and there may be more to come. Kevin Pelton discusses it all with us. Why do NBA players make so much more than NFL players? Because there are fewer NBA players. Texts react to the show at 49451. Softy says he doesn't really care that Vogelbach is an All Star. Right now, Mariners are so far down the priority list that even Husky uniform talk takes priority.
