The Ian Furness Show

Furness H1 - Mariners Embarrassed Again / Getting Creative on TV / Something Good: Lori Matsukawa

Furness H2 - Hope for the Mariners? / Maury Brown on Baseballs Problems / Softy on ROOT

The Mariners are back at home this week, playing Kansas City, and just as we've seen a hundred times before, the bullpen gave up the lead. Ian tuned into the game and realized that for the first time ever, he didn't care if the team won or lost. It's a strange feeling. The Mariners rebuild is a small part of a bigger problem with baseball, as passionate fans seem to continue to disappear, but what is the problem? Some point to the shift, openers, and analytics being introduced to the game, but it's bigger than that. On Something Good, Brie Larson gave credit to the people behind the scenes that have helped make her the actress she is.

Reports are claiming that the M's are up to trade just about everyone on the current roster, which comes as no real surprise, but there's one player that can bring the most value right now, and he needs to be traded. The drama in the NBA never seems to end. Now, we're hearing that Chris Paul and James Harden haven't spoken in months, and both have asked to be traded. Texts weigh in on the Mariners and the state of baseball. Ian asks Softy if he'd give up talking for a Husky national championship.

We start the show with some troubling news, as we are getting reports of a shooting tat the Raptors victory parade in Toronto. It sounds as though it's an isolated incident, but it still reminds us of the unfortunate reality that these things occur often in today's world now. On a more positive note, the Toronto victory, and the celebration that followed reminds us of what fandom is. It isn't always logical, but it does bring a sense of belonging to a community. Back here at home, the Mariners have traded Edwin Encarnacion. We all of course, knew this was coming, but what many expected was something greater in return than what we got; a pitching prospect named Juan Then who had previously been in the M's organization before being traded for Nick Rumbelow. On Something Good, Gary Woodland won the US Open. If you don't know the story already, we share why he's so highly-regarded as a human being.

The M's continue with the rebuild process. How difficult is it to put the best team possible on the field while trying to find and develop the next generation? Bill Krueger talks with Ian about the latest Mariners storylines, including the Encarnacion trade and the demotion of Justus Sheffield to AA. The US Open has wrapped up. Bob Casper of Real Golf Radio joins us once again to go over this weekend's tournament. Texts react to the latest M's moves at 49451. Softy joins us from Jimmy's on First.

The Toronto Raptors are victorious, taking Game 6, and the series from Golden State. Yes, injuries played a role, but at the end of the day Toronto got it done. When players like Klay and KD go down, often people are looking for someone or something to blame, but sometimes injuries just happen. The M's AA manager Mitch Canham has been named the new coach of Oregon State baseball. The Athletic's Corey Brock talks about the move, plus the story of Jake Fraley, a good player, and a great father, making the effort to bring his family along with him as he rises through the ranks of minor league ball. We learn more about the Hawks' new wide receiver DK Metcalf from his coach at Ole Miss, Jacob Peeler. On Something Good, a local golfer taking swings with only one arm.

The US Open continues today. We had to Pebble Beach to talk with Bob Casper of Real Golf Radio about the latest. Mariner legend Edgar Martinez joins the show to talk about his upcoming Hall of Fame induction, his story of becoming a Mariner, his time in the minors, playing with other legends like Junior and Buhner, his new autobiography, and more. We wrap up the show playing a game of Fill in the Bleep.
