The Impact Of COVID Upon Safety - Part 2 - with Stuart Hughes and David Gold

Listen Later

In the second of a three-part series, Colin talks to David Gold, the founder of Gold-Knecht Associates, and Stuart Hughes, the head of safety for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Grand Prix.

Stuart and David have authored a paper on COVID and the impact it has had upon the safety profession, the participants involved and how the process worked, as well as some of the details of the findings.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The study was undertaken with the highest level in mind, including members of the Institutional Occupational Safety society - council members or presidential members.
  • Whenever focus groups are created, it is vital that one dominant voice isn't formulated, that varying members are brought in to reflect a broad opinion base.
  • It is only now that governing bodies are asking businesses to treat COVID as any other hazard instead of singling it out as a special concern.

BEST MOMENTS

'We had the right target to make this thing work'

'We decided to do this at a fairly high level'

'In our mind, they were leaders of occupational safety and health'

'Part of what we've put into the discussion piece is a challenge to the profession'
