For years the memes 'don't tell us about your workout' have been posted across Facebook and social media, it then collided with the body positive image of embracing all shapes and sizes but at no point did we address the negative impact this has on our physical and mental health. Today exercising shaming is still a thing. The comments individuals receive from others for wanting to lose weight or tone up speak to us about loving our body more but since when does refusing to exercise or have better health mean you love your body? In this episode I talk about how the body positivity movement and our inability to deal with the root of our problems becomes an enabler for poor health.
"My friend told me that I should love my body because its great just as it is. It's like they missed the point, loving my body IS choosing to workout. Isn't choosing not to workout when my body could be healthier & stronger throughout my whole life the opposite of body positivity? Just because I want a healthier body doesn't mean I hate it, that's like saying love someone but never put in any effort, it doesn't work that way. Why should anyone be shamed for wanting a stronger body?"
If you'd like to learn how to deal with people who have shamed you for your exercise goals this episode is for you. It's also for you if you've been a critic of people posting workout videos in the past. Let's get to the bottom of those reactions to help you feel more at ease- whether that's skipping the post without a reaction or getting into a mindset to move your body.
