  • What does the proposed Nordic Model mean for Victoria’s Sex Workers
This week, it came to light that members of the Liberal party are proposing new party policy ahead of the state election, to move from the current regulation in Victoria, under the Sex Work Act of 1994, to what is known as the Nordic model. Under the Nordic model, while sex workers themselves are not specifically criminalized, clients and third parties, such as landlords, can be.

Rachel Tyler Jones spoke with Jane Green from The Vixen Collective, Victoria’s peer only sex worker organisation and the recognised representative organisation for sex workers in Victoria, about what this would mean for sex workers, as well as their clients and the wider community.

On this episode of The Informer, we speak to two of the speakers from the Health in Difference Conference earlier in the month. After seeing social media explode with positivity to the diversity and intersectionality experienced, we ask who and how we can build on this to create a more inclusive future.
With Anzac Day in a few days, we find out about the Anzac Appeal and how the funds raised help to support veterans and servicemen and women today.
And we find an answer to a simple question that often confuses many, how to reach out to those marginalised in our communities, is it as simple as putting your hand out, or is there a greater way to connect?

With Newcastle locals launching the inaugural Newcastle Pride Festival in August, we look at why we need to be more visible with our pride in regional spaces to create greater awareness and inclusion.
And with tomorrow night’s Minus 18 Queer Formal in Melbourne, we speak to Lush Cosmetics who have partnered with the event about what it means to do so as a business, while some assume it is all about the money, does this kind of visibility and inclusion create something stronger and more accepting for all.

  • Businesses have so much power to create social change
In February on Valentine’s Day, LUSH Cosmetics launched a Pride Campaign celebrating the vibrant and powerful LGBTQIA+ community within their own business. A business which visibly showed support for its LGBTIQA+ staff during last years postal survey and support for our communities as well.
This Friday, Minus 18 will hold the first Queer Formal of 2018 in Melbourne, with 500 young people celebrating who they are in a formal event where they can be who they are and proudly bring their friends and partners as they hold their hands and dance the night away.
Lush Cosmetics has partnered with Minus18 to help make this year’s first Queer Formal happen. Dean Arcuri spoke to Ariane, Lux’s Charitable Communications specialist about why this kind of visibility and inclusion was important for their business, in creating a strong and accepting space for all.

  • How to collect strong engaging data for marginalised diverse communities, with Dr Damien Riggs
In another episode of The Informer, we heard from Dr. Damien Riggs, Associate Professor in Social Work at Flinders University and project leader in the research into Fertility Preservation amongst Trans and non-binary Australians.
We reported on their initial findings which created a snapshot of the information sourced by the study, with over 400 Australians surveyed.
With the summation details opening up a plethora of information data that can be shared on a range of topics relating to the study for trans and non-binary individuals, we began to discuss how they sought such a rich and diverse engagement through the study.
The blueprint of this is a great way model for people creating data and research in the non binary, trans gender and gender diverse field
So Tom Morgan continued our conversation tonight with Dr Damien Riggs, a psychotherapist who works with transgender adolescents and children, as we discussed his experiences engaging with these individuals on fertility options, experiences and concerns.
