  • NASP and the three associations that make it

It's not often you get the three chair people of NASP in the same place for a public conversation, but today I'm lucky to be joined by Carly Brookfield of The Driving Instructors Association (DIA), Lynne Barrie of the Approved Driving Instructors National Joint Council (ADINJC) and Peter Harvey or The Motor Schools Association of Great Britain (MSAGB).

    • How the 3 associations work together and resolve differences
    • Fexperts
    • Is NASP important
    • Are associations important?
    • The new initiatives being worked on
    • What changes each would like to see to the industry
    • And more...

The National Associations Strategic Partnership is a representative body focused on promoting the interests of Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs). It is formed of representatives of the three main membership associations for driver trainers in the UK. Our aim is to protect and promote the interests of professional drivers trainers and help support the profession in its goals to improve driving standards and road safety in the UK.

The Motor Schools Association of Great Britain (MSA GB) is one of the longest established national bodies for driver trainers in the world, having started back in 1935 just before the introduction of the driving test, it is the senior trade association for driver trainers in Britain. The association provides members with information both electronically and in print.

  • Backstage pass #1

What goes into making The Instructor Podcast?

Excellent question! And in this bonus episode I tell you.

Backstage Pass is a new weekly show I've started over on my Premium subscription feed. I'll be sharing the occasional episode over here and thought it would be cool to share the first episode where I explain everything that goes on to create The Instructor Podcast.

I fit all this in around my role as a driving instructor, which I love and never intend to stop.

  • International Women's Day - #BreakTheBias

This episode of The Instructor Podcast sees a take over from Emma Cottington, for International Women's Day. Joined by Steph Davies and Deb Jordan here's some of the things we cover:

    • Our experiences of being women in a male dominated industry
    • How we got into the industry
    • Our achievements since
    • Deb's biker experience and wonderful work for the Blood Bikers charity
    • Steph's expansion into a coaching business
    • Emma's book The Learner Driver Logbook

We really enjoyed taking over the podcast for this episode, sharing our experiences and how we feel its evolved in the time we have been instructors. How we have overcome some criticism and competition but mostly how we feel no different for being women in this environment, we are supported, encouraged and flourish right where we are by everyone around us! The driver training industry really is a great place to be.
