This time of year is precious and special for so many reasons. There’s something intangible about it. Many try to explain it away with twinkling lights, shimmering paper and festive gatherings; but those of us who know, I mean really know, why we celebrate this season can have no doubt that the reason for the special “magic,” if you will, is that this is when we pause to reflect on the greatest act of love ever known.

Have you ever stopped to think about what it must have been like in heaven that day? We often think about the Hallelujah Chorus, the rejoicing, the excitement and the angels singing, “Glory to God in the highest!” And while they certainly did do that, and there was plenty of excitement about it, do we realize what really took place? Think with me what it must have been like when God looked at His Son, and knew it was time.

My friends, there is power in the stillness. It is in the quiet – in the peace – that we can most accurately reflect the glory of our God. If you feel your soul is a jumbled, turbulent mess I beg you, make the time to be still.

Still waters reflect perfectly the image of the sun. Raging waters reflect nothing. When my soul is still and at peace I can beautifully reflect the image of the Son to the world around me, but when my soul within me is turbulent and tossing there’s no reflection at all. It’s merely a churning mess.

Did you know you can teach your kids to ride a bike and walk with the Lord…at the same time! This came to me a few years back when our youngest was learning to ride his bike. On the straightaways he was a real pro, but when he would look ahead and see a point at which a directional choice would be required he would lose it. When I was in front of him, or he was sure of the way, all was calm. But let me get behind him, and he would freak out! Though I was right there, because he couldn’t see me, he thought maybe I wasn’t paying attention, wasn’t going to help him or keep him safe.

It occurred to me how much this relates to our everyday lives and walking with the Lord. I began to see how learning to push through the tall grass when we get off course can help strengthen us for other unexpected turns ahead.

This everyday activity soon became an opportunity to shape my kids and to help grow their faith. This, my friends is what the Intertwined Life is all about!

Sales of Tofu have skyrocketed during the pandemic! In the absence of sufficient quality meat production, many would-be carnivores are looking to an imitation of the real thing to satisfy their protein needs. Google searches for “tofu recipes” have doubled, as people seek to season and alter this product into something that can fool their taste buds into believing they’re eating the real deal, or at the very least that they are not missing out on anything.

Makes me wonder…how many are settling for tofu Christianity? How many are tweaking and flavoring an imitation instead of truly diving in and feasting on the real deal?

Nothing against vegetarians and vegans, but when it comes to walking with the Lord does what you’re consuming leave you wondering if there might be something more?

I often struggle with maintaining peace in my heart, which I know translates to peace in my home. I believe as wives and moms we hold a lot of responsibility for the emotional environments of our homes.

Kids not listening? Do you ever get the feeling they are tuning you out?

I am not a woman of few words. (Shocker, I know!) And my parenting is often no exception to this.

The Bible clearly tells us, too many words can be a real problem. (See Ecclesiastes 5:3) And when it comes to parenting too many words aimed towards an elementary school mind can take my attempts at wisdom and powerful Biblical advice meant to encourage and inspire and quickly turn them into little more than the sound of the teacher on Charlie Brown… “Wha, wha, wha …”

For this reason I'm bring you a practical parenting tip for those parents like me who can’t seem to wrap it up.
