Most people would have learned about the Norman Invasion of Ireland back at the end of primary school, or the start of secondary school.
So, the details might be somewhat hazy in your mind, but that may not be a bad thing as much of what we learned was a story told primarily from the perspective of the invader rather than the invaded. Indeed, it’s not even referred to as the Norman Invasion anymore!
Dr Seán Ó Hoireabhard is a Lecturer in Medieval History at Maynooth University and the author of a new book focussing on the invasion as experienced by the native Irish Kings. It’s called ‘The Medieval Irish Kings and the English Invasion’. Seán joins Seán to discuss.
