Elk River votes 65/35 for Republicans like Donald Trump. Yet its school district staff ask kindergarteners for "preferred pronouns." That's why John Anderson and Mindy Frieberg were elected to the board in 2022, to bring a pro-parent perspective and align policy with community values. Rather than respect the will of the people expressed through the electoral process, the majority on the board, led by the chair, and eagerly shepherded by staff, proceeded to leverage "policy, protocol, and procedure" to build a case against the new board members, accusing them of being "unprepared for meetings" because they ask questions, and censuring them for such sins as holding town halls and seeking detailed curriculum information.
