Uttarakhand government's move to forcibly remove banners prohibiting entry of non-Hindus in Hindu temples takes us back to the days of Umar's Code that made it obligatory on the Kafirs to host Muslims in their houses and temples as per their wishes. The entire State wants Hindus to become secular in their social dealings in spite of having equal right to freedom of religion and conscience. On the other hand, minorities are free to practise their brand of anti-Hindu exclusion. High time Hindus understood that a boundary-less Hinduism, which many political Hindus profess, will only mean that their religious and cultural space will continue to shrink till they are overwhelmed and turned into a minority. After that, the scenario will change to that of majority rights, as in every majority Muslim and Christian State.
