    @cavnessHR across social media

    @jasoncavnessHR across social media

    We talk about the following

    How he grew Moz from 7 to 134 people and was that the right thing to do.

    His new company SparkToro.

    His advice to marketers and founders in our new economic reality.

    Why HR is important to small business and startups.

    Rand's Bio

    Rand Fishkin is the cofounder and CEO of SparkToro. He's dedicated his professional life to helping people do better marketing through his blogging, videos, speaking, and his book, Lost and Founder.

    When Rand's not working, he's most likely to be in the company of his partner in marriage and (mostly petty) crime, author Geraldine DeRuiter. If you feed him great pasta or great whisky, he'll give you the cheat code to rank #1 on Google.

    Rand's Advice

    One of my big things that's proved valuable for me personally is if all the media and coverage and the environment you're swimming in and your peers around you are going in one direction. It can be really valuable to choose a different one. I'm a big believer in being the exception to the rule.

    The only thing that would be left to be said is that if you think you can do it, you probably can. If you don't think you can do it, you won't do it. There's no reason to be afraid of putting yourself out there.

    There's no reason of being afraid of taking that leap. Because even if you fail there wasn't enough people that knew about you and they won't know you failed. Did you succeed? It looks like you did it overnight even though it probably took five years to get a profit in there.

  • A Talk with Erin Longmoon, CEO Zephyr Recruiting

    On this episode of the Jason Cavness Experience we talk to Erin Longmoon, CEO Zephyr Recruiting

    cavnessHR website: https://www.cavnessHR.com

    Jason's email: [email protected]

    @cavnessHR across social media

    @jasoncavnessHR across social media

    We talk about the following

    What is a toxic workplace.

    What are the challenges of having a remote company.

    Zephyr Recruiting.

    HR.

    Erin's Bio

    Erin Longmoon's mission in life is to eradicate toxic workplaces. She believes that everyone deserves to love their job and feel like they are contributing to a greater purpose. As the owner of Zephyr Recruiting LLC, she accomplishes this mission by matching great small businesses with their RIGHT FIT™ employees.

    Erin has more than two decades of experience helping small businesses and has owned five businesses. From her work she heard a common pain point: how do I hire great employees when I don't have the time or experience to do it myself, or the money to hire a traditional recruiter? Zephyr Recruiting solves this problem by focusing on culture and fit, as well as experience (i.e. your RIGHT FIT), for a flat fee.

    Erin dreams of changing people's lives by helping them realize that they are deeply worthy. She also dreams about being the next Stevie Nicks and being friends with the Dalai Lama. Her magic powers are empathy, ability to read people, coming up with new and awesome ideas, and making a perfectly cooked filet mignon.

    As the owner of Zephyr Recruiting she oversees an amazing work-at-home team who shares her passion for supporting great places to work.

    The passion to eradicating toxic workplaces comes from a place a lot of us can resonate with.

    When Erin was an employee at a company with a toxic workplace, she saw firsthand how the culture impacted everyone on a deep level. The toxic workplace reduced morale and productivity, followed her home, and led good employees to quit.

    For a small business to thrive and flourish, you and your employees must love what you do. Erin loves what she does at Zephyr Recruiting. Always looking for new ways to help great small businesses, Zephyr Recruiting has recently launched its new offering: Employment Brand Marketing, or EBM for short. EBM helps small businesses showcase why they are great places to work, allowing them to attract their RIGHT FIT employee when they are ready to hire.

    Erin's Gift

    We have this really cool employment brand marketing checklist. We spent quite a bit of time where we broke out all the different steps and phases. If you're interested in starting employment brand marketing, or even if you're doing it but you're not sure you're doing it quite thoroughly enough. Then this checklist will be a huge, huge help. You can find it at

    Company LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/zephyrrecruiting/

    Company FB: https://www.facebook.com/zephyrrecruiting/

    Erin's Advice

    I think that what I would like to share is something that someone said to me a couple weeks ago. I did a webinar the other day and the presenter said don't waste this quarantine. That really shifted my mindset in that moment.

    I'm going to commit to myself to make sure that I take this time and to not waste this quarantine. To do things that I've wanted to do to make commitments to my team. I have a little short list of things that I am now working on personally. Now is the time for me to do this. I'm making a commitment to grow from this.

    If I had advice, I would say, do what you can if you're in a position where you can seize this as an opportunity, grow from this experience.

    Diamond's Advice

    I really want to spread the word about Emotional Intelligence. It's the ability to really think about how others feel, think and perceive before we engage them and during the time of engaging them.

    That's how we can really create win win conversations. We need more teamwork and we need people to stick together and work projects that take years. If we're going to be able to accomplish those projects, then it's really the emotional intelligence that will be key to this.

    I really want to inspire people to understand that you're those skills or something you can still and gain improve. They never cap out like IQ. IQ caps out by your mid early 20s. But Emotional Intelligence skills do not cap out. It's been proven you can grow your Emotional Intelligence at all ages.

    Justine's Advice

    I think as entrepreneurs as people in this world, and going through these uncertain times, I think it's really important to take a few minutes and create some normalcy for yourself and give yourself a little bit of time to relax. I find I can constantly go through the days and the weekend, working.

    So what I tried to do and what I encourage everyone else to do is maybe try to stop working on the weekends. Try to actually take Saturday and Sunday off. Whether it's that you're going to go walk your dog, watch some movies, cook. But I feel for me, it's really made a huge impact and allowed me to be more efficient, effective, and hard working during the weekdays.

    Tej's Bio

    In addition to helping companies expand their digital presence, ThinkImpact Inc. also provides Graphic Design, Website Development, Project Management/Coordination, Marketing Consulting, and Event Promotion.

    Tej recently won the Young Alumni 10 within 10 Award from Oakland University, which recognizes business leaders that are making an impact in the local community. ThinkHelping works with local nonprofits providing marketing-related services but at a much cost ffective rate, and really prides itself on making an impact in the community. In the short time that this non-profit was found, ThinkHelping has secured clients in the Michigan area.

    ThinkImpact1st Instagram: @thinkimpact1st

    Tej's Advice

    I would say for any aspiring entrepreneur out there to really be empathetic to the process as a whole. Actually secure a client rather than going through the checklist of securing the client because the process to get there is a long road. Be empathetic to each part of that trail to landing the client, and also think about how you can provide value to the client, rather than just thinking. Oh, it's a great client for me.

    Have a much more broad sense of how you can provide value even though it may not be something you may be familiar with, think about providing value. Because that's important at the end of the day.

    Develop a Minimal Viable Product. That's a concept that's described in a book called "The Lean Startup" by Eric Ries. So basically, what my point here is to have a real business need, rather than turning a hobby into a business. Because the more solutions it can provide, the better it will be.

    Ali's Advice

    I'd say advice for marketing right now. If you're listening to this right now, in our current situation, one of the best things you can do is revisit what your marketing calendar looks like for the next year. I think people right now are hoping this is a short term thing. Which hopefully it is, but it's certainly going to impact how we communicate with people long term.

    So I think people's inboxes are still going to be overflowing. I think we're still gonna be inundated with content as we move forward out of this. So pare down what you're doing to the most essential value and the unique value you that can drive for your customers and then make sure that you have a way to track that. That's your analytics conversation to make sure that you're seeing what's coming from your efforts.
