OptometristMy education experience is serving on the Frederick County Board of Education for the last 8 years as well as having three students in our local schools. I live the policies and decisions made by our Board and that provides invaluable perspective.

I currently serve as Chair of our Curriculum and Instruction Committee and a Board representative on our Career and Technical Education Committee.

I still consider myself just a parent not a politician. I was elected in 2010 and 2014 to serve our community on the Board of Education.

Marcus Stallworth, LMSW, Owner of Stallworth Counseling Services LLC, operates with a strength based, hands on approach.  Spending close to 15 years providing Child Protective Services, he is recognized by the State of Connecticut as an expert witness for providing testimony. He has spearheaded several initiatives to promote the engagement of Fathers, the prevention of abuse and neglect, and the dangers of Social Media. He has direct experience educating and supporting Human Trafficking and Sexually Exploited victims, including those in Foster Care. He played a leadership role in Connecticut’s Disaster Behavioral Health Response Network, and oversaw recovery efforts in Newtown CT after the events on December 14, 2012.

 

Marcus works with for Child Welfare League of America as a national consultant, trainer, and curriculum developer. He has had multiple articles published in CWLA’s Children’s Voice magazine, co-wrote the acclaimed Supervision for Success training curriculum, and is recognized in “Acknowledgments” section of globally utilized New Generation PRIDE published in 2016. He is also on the Board of Directors for the National Foster Parent Association (NFPA).

 

Marcus is also co-owner of Welcome 2 Reality, LLC which focuses on providing media literacy and education for students and parents regarding social media and technology. Stallworth and his team are credited for getting Public Act 17-67 passed into law Connecticut, mandating steps be taken to provide social media education be taught in all public schools. He currently teaches a self- created elective entitled: Social Media: The Good, Bad, and the Ugly at the University of Bridgeport. He has taught courses at Post University, the University of Connecticut, and is currently teaching in the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in Manhattan.

Dr. Kristine Peal holds the position of supervisor for Career and Technology Education for Frederick County Public Schools. In that role she provides oversite for the 32 Career and Technology Education (CTE) programs at the Career and Technology Center as well as agriculture, business education, computer science, engineering, family and consumer science, technology education  and work based learning at all of the middle and high schools.

For the past two years’ she has had also led the Maryland Youth Apprenticeship "Earn and Learn" pilot program for Frederick County Public Schools.

Kristine is a graduate of Walkersville High School and Towson State. She holds a Master’s of Business Administration from Frostburg State, a Master’s equivalency in Administrative Leadership from Hood College and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Frostburg State.

 

This spring Kristine was sworn in as a Governor appointed member of the Governing Board of the Maryland Education Development and Collaborative.  She recently served on the Career and Technology Education Sub-Committee for the Maryland Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education (commonly referred to as the Kirwan Commission). Kristine is a member of the Governor’s Workforce Development Task Force for Advanced Manufacturing and Trades and is past President of the Maryland Career and Technology Administrators.

Career & Technology Education (CTE) programs of study are available at all high schools and the Career & Technology Center. They offer students the opportunity to prepare for college and/or career and through academic skill development and practical work experiences. A CTE completer consists of four courses within a specific career pathway. Typically a CTE completer earns industry certifications and/or college credit. The purpose of the New Horizons program is to help overcome these barriers for homeless youth within Frederick County Public Schools, advocating and effectively connecting them to community services which will help to break the cycle of their condition and position them for future success. With a dedicated in-school staff of social workers that conduct individual Needs Assessment for each student, to then create a personalized service plan connecting each student to community services, New Horizons is designed to increase the likelihood of an on-time graduation to alleviate future homelessness.

A few years back, a Frederick County business was named one of the top 10 auto shops in the U.S. by Motor Age magazine.

Dynamic Automotive, with three locations, was chosen after an in-depth look at the business covering everything from experience and training to community involvement and marketing.

Dwayne Myers, Jose Buesco and Lee Forman are partners in the business that offers complete automotive service, including inspections, oil changes and regular maintenance. The flagship location, at 8824 Urbana Church Road in Urbana, also has a car wash. Other shops are in Libertytown and New Market.

The partners, interviewed at the Urbana shop, said the key is personal service. He also is a big player in the apprentice program, run by the Department of Labor.

The Tourism Council of Frederick County is an off-shoot of the Frederick Chamber of Commerce. The council's mission is to build Frederick as a place to visit in the Mid Maryland Region. John Feisler has been the Executive Director for the past 20 years. The show also includes Cara Norman from the Downtown Frederick Partnership and Tony Diiolio from the Mother Seton Shrine in Emittsburg.

Regina Williams was a candidate for the Republican nomination for the office of Frederick County Executive. She was a former Frederick County Budget Officer and now is working in the public sector.

Regina was born and raised on a dairy farm in Frederick County and attended Frederick County Public Schools. She earned her Bachelors Degree from Hood College, and is a CPA with a Masters Degree in Accounting & Financial Management from UMUC.

During her tenure as Frederick County Budget Director, she was responsible for creating the budget and 6 year projections for the Bond Rating Agencies in New York that resulted in Frederick County being upgraded to AAA by Standard & Poor’s. For the first time in history, Frederick County had AAA bond rating by all three agencies. Fewer than 50 counties out of more than 3,000 counties nationwide have AAA bond ratings from all three rating agencies.

A Republican businessman has won the Republican nomination for the District 3 seat in the Maryland Senate.

Craig Giangrande, who owns several local Burger King franchises, made his announcement Wednesday morning outside Winchester Hall. His family was set to host a private fundraiser with former Republican Gov. Bob Ehrlich on Wednesday evening at their home.

Giangrande, 52, is a first-time candidate in a race that’s been targeted for victory by the state Republican Party.

While he’s followed local politics closely for years, Giangrande said he hopes to bring an outsider, business approach to legislating, with goals to make the state more business friendly and make government more accountable to constituents.
