In this episode of the Jinger & Jeremy Podcast, I'm sitting down with my sister Joy to talk all things marriage, especially what it's really like getting married young. Joy was 19 when she married Austin, and I was 22 when I married Jeremy, so we're diving into our different timelines, how our age gaps compared, and what marriage actually looked like once the "happily ever after" honeymoon phase wore off. We get honest about the biggest surprises marriage threw at us — from learning how to communicate (and why miscommunication is behind almost every argument), to balancing work and family life when your husband's job doesn't fit a typical 9-to-5, to figuring out how to find your own voice and opinions after years of just going along with everything. I open up about how I used to be way more passive early in our marriage, and how Jeremy actually pushed me to become more independent... even when that meant a little more "friction" at home! We also get into some of the funnier, more personal sides of marriage: Jeremy's prankster habit of bringing snakes and reptiles into our house, Austin's germaphobe tendencies and nightly shower routine, and the best piece of marriage advice we've actually stuck with — a simple nightly question that's helped keep our communication open for years. If you're newly married, engaged, dating young, or just curious what marriage looks like behind the scenes for us, this episode is full of honest, relatable, and encouraging conversation about love, growth, and building a life together. 🎧 New episodes every week — SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss out! In this episode of the Jinger & Jeremy Podcast, my sister Joy and I are getting real about something almost every mom deals with: feeling overwhelmed. We're talking about overscheduled kids, overcommitting to social plans, and how to know when a busy season has crossed the line into burnout. Joy opens up about how her capacity to handle things comes in waves, and why she and Austin made the decision to protect at least three quiet evenings at home each week just to reset as a family. I share how Jeremy and I hit our own breaking point after years of "gone, gone, gone" through ministry and church commitments, and what it took for us to finally say it's time for a change, even when that meant pulling back from good things and worrying about what people would think. We dig into the difference between a busy season (like a home remodel or a book deadline) versus a lifestyle that's simply unsustainable long term, and the practical ways we've each learned to say no, protect our family's time, and communicate openly about what we can and can't handle in any given week. If you've ever felt stretched too thin, guilty about pulling back from commitments, or unsure how to reset when life gets too full, this conversation is for you. 🎧 New episodes of the Jinger & Jeremy Podcast every week — SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss out! 00:00:00 – Intro & Welcome 00:00:54 – What's Making You Feel Overwhelmed This Week? 00:04:23 – Stepping Back from Overcommitment (Bible Study Story) 00:06:08 – What Helps vs. What Doesn't When You're Overwhelmed 00:09:21 – How Austin & Jeremy Notice When We're Overwhelmed 00:12:35 – Communication, Sleep & Letting Go of What's Not Yours to Carry 00:14:44 – Do You Need to Leave the House Every Day? 00:22:34 – Burnout, a Stress Rash & Learning to Rest 00:24:36 – Things We've Said No To Recently 00:30:12 – Does Your Capacity Change With the Season? 00:32:11 – Feeling Like an Introvert & Emotional Drain 00:34:02 – Joy's Genuinely Restful Day 00:38:18 – Jinger's Genuinely Restful Day 00:42:02 – The "Milestone Party" Trend 00:44:54 – Are Themed Birthday Parties Over the Top? 00:52:44 – Overscheduled Kids & Youth Sports 00:58:02 – One Thing That's Helping Us Slow Down 01:00:07 – Closing Thoughts & Outro OUR INCREDIBLE SPONSORS: COZY EARTH: Luxury Shouldn’t Be Out of Reach. Does friendship feel harder than it should? In this episode, I sit down with my sister and co-host Joy for an honest, tear-filled conversation about what it's really taken for us to build meaningful friendships — as kids, as teens, and now as adult women navigating marriage, motherhood, and moving to a new city. Joy and I open up about growing up in the public eye and how that shaped (and sometimes stunted) our ability to trust and connect with others. We talk through the insecurity, comparison, and social anxiety that followed us into adulthood, and how marriage — and moving away from a built-in support system of siblings — forced me to learn how to make friends from scratch. I share real stories about the friends who've shown up for me in hard seasons: care packages during potty training, a month of secret prayer journaling from my sister-in-law, last-minute pool days, and coffee dropped off at my door with no expectations attached. Joy and I get vulnerable about the fear of losing friends during hard family seasons, the guilt I've felt pulling back, and why "perfect" friendships don't exist — but genuine ones are worth fighting for. In this episode: Why friendship didn't come naturally to me or Joy growing up How growing up in the public eye affected our ability to trust people Battling insecurity, body image, and comparison as teens How marriage and moving away exposed the gaps in my friendships The role social media plays in how our kids will experience friendship and comparison Small, thoughtful gestures that have made the biggest difference for me in hard seasons How I'm challenging myself to reach out and encourage a friend this week If you've ever struggled to make or keep close friends, felt too busy or too "in survival mode" to nurture relationships, or wondered how to build real community as an adult — this episode is for you. My sister Joy flew in for a visit and we couldn't wait to jump on the mic together! In this episode, I sit down with my favorite co-host (yes, my actual sister) to talk about what it's really like being sisters — the closeness we didn't always have growing up, how we stay connected even though we live so far apart, and why FaceTime has completely changed the way our families bond across the miles. We get into it all: our kids growing up as playmates even though they're states apart, what it means to build relationships with aunts, uncles, and grandparents who don't live nearby, and how technology has changed long-distance family life for the better. I also open up about leaning on my faith through hard seasons and how studying the attributes of God has shifted my whole perspective lately. If you've ever wondered how sisters stay close despite distance, different seasons of life, or busy schedules — this conversation is for you. 📌 In this episode: ✨ Growing up as sisters (and not always being close) ✨ How we stay connected long-distance ✨ FaceTime, family bonds, and our kids' relationships ✨ Leaning on faith through hard seasons ✨ Studying the attributes of God 00:00:00 - Welcome Back, Joy 00:02:24 - Staying Close Across the Distance 00:06:18 - Why We Weren't Close Growing Up 00:12:37 - Childhood Memories and Family Roles 00:17:11 - How We Became Close Friends 00:23:01 - Growing in Vulnerability and Faith 00:27:22 - Fun Sister Questions 00:30:53 - Crying at Unexpected Moments 00:32:17 - Impulse Buying and Spending Habits 00:38:21 - What We've Been Loving 00:45:13 - Finding Encouragement in God's Attributes 00:46:43 - Thanks for Watching OUR INCREDIBLE SPONSORS: COZY EARTH: Luxury Shouldn’t Be Out of Reach.
