Chapter 1:
-First Lady Melania Trump’s jacket is getting all the press coverage for the words on the back of her fashionable article of clothing. She went to visit with detainee’s at the border wearing a green jacket with the words “I really don’t care do u” written on the back.
Chapter 2:
-The plight of immigrants arriving at the US-Mexico border was given a human face this week, when a two-year-old girl from Honduras was photographed crying as her mother was searched by border officers. Today, the Honduran foreign ministry, and a man who says he’s the girl’s father, say the girl and her mother were not separated after they arrived at the US. Nonetheless, the striking image has become a symbol for those campaigning for better treatment of people seeking asylum in the US.
Chapter 3:
-Would you be in favour of cramming all your work into four days instead of five? If you said ‘yes,’ you’re not alone. According to a new poll from the Angus Reid Institute, most Canadians are in favour of a shorter work week with longer days.
Chapter 4:
-Liberal MLA, Rich Coleman held a series of meetings this week with key supporters in Surrey as he ponders a possible bid to be the city's mayor and Councillor Bruce Hayne quitting the ruling Surrey First party to run as an independent, he is also considering bid for mayor.
Chapter 5:
-US President, Donald Trump, is defending his wife, the First Lady, Melania Trump, following criticism of the clothes she wore yesterday. She’s being called ‘tone deaf’ because she decided to wear a jacket that read ‘I really don’t care, do you?’ on her way to visit immigrant children at a detention centre in Texas.
Chapter 6:
-The first round of the NHL draft gets underway this evening! The Detroit Red Wings are going to be busy - they'll have 11 picks. The Canucks hold the seventh overall selection - what's in store for them and what other surprises may be in store?
Chapter 7:
-The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has found a Victoria man was discriminated against when he was denied a high level job at Transport Canada 12 years ago, because he mentioned in the job interview he’d experienced bouts of depression.
Chapter 8:
-The Canucks will most likely take a defenseman at the draft, unless there is a star forward that falls into their lap. But don’t be too excited, Vancouver has a rough history when picking defensemen.
Chapter 9:
-This week, the final hurdle to legal weed was passed. The Trudeau government's Bill C-45 received royal assent, officially becoming the law of the land. It kicks in on October 17th. The companion bill, C-46 also received royal assent, which will give impaired driving laws more teeth. Justin Trudeau spoke to reporters shortly after the bill became law.
