The last few Fridays, we’ve talked about starting with conviction, then staying calm. Today, we move on to the next principle from Chapter 11 of Tod Bolsinger’s book “Canoeing the Mountains”, which is STAY CONNECTED.
At every step, we need to be asking ourselves WHY we do what we do. Why? Because it is important to always be intentional about moving forward. Why is it important to stay connected? Because one of the best ways to move forward is through real genuine and intentional CONNECTION.
If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
-African Proverb
We’ve been going through the 6 strategies on how to navigate our way forward in the midst of the struggle of life. Today, we dive into the third - “Reengaging The Present Moment”.
To be fully present and engaged in the present moment is such a valuable but challenging thing. Our culture doesn’t teach us how to do it, and we don’t do it instinctively because of the chaos around us. Tune in to today's episode to hear Jon and Bryan share their perspective on how we can all reengage the present moment.
On Sunday we talked about how the way forward is around in perspective by looking back in belief and forward in faith. Well, the "more" for your Monday also includes two bonus ways that your way forward is around in perspective: up in mentorship and down in discipleship.
Today, Jon, Tommy, and Dan continue digging into Tod Bolsinger’s book “Canoeing the Mountains”. Today’s focus - STAY CALM.
Bolsinger focuses on leadership and strategy. Here’s his 4 part framework on how to lead well:
Start with conviction.
Stay calm.
Stay together.
Stay the course.
Romans 12:1 talks about the renewing of our minds. Your mind WILL be renewed by something. Be INTENTIONAL about what that is! Start with conviction, and STAY CALM. Let’s trade the phrase “Be Safe” with “Be Courageous”!
Last Wednesday, we started discussing 6 strategies on how to navigate our way forward in the midst of the struggle of life. The first strategy we covered last week was “Radical Acceptance”. Today, we move on to number 2: Removing Roadblocks and Ruts. Two of the biggest roadblocks in life are GUILT and MOTIVATION. Tune in today to hear about both of them.
It’s all on you.
Rise and grind.
I got this.
Show up early - stay late.
Don’t be a zero, be a hero.
Those statements reflect perseverance according to culture. A Biblical perspective of perseverance is very different.
Biblical perseverance can include some of these things, but not because we’ve earned something, but because we’ve already received something - that being the gift of eternal life AND the power of God’s Holy Spirit! It is not up to our strength, but to the strength of God that is IN us!
Perseverance means that we let nothing move us. If you want to persevere, you have to fix your eyes on the finish and fix your feet on a promise.
Tommy Bowman and Dan Ruta are joining Jon today for our first #FridayWhyDay of the season! Why did we choose this for one of our themes this season? Well, “If you lose your why, you lose your way.”
Join Jon and Bryan Silver for a deep discussion around "Six Strategies for the Struggle Bus". Bryan leads us through the first strategy, which is "Radical Acceptance". Accepting and processing our circumstances and situations properly instead of trying to control them can lead us to healthier habits, stronger relationships, and away from the endless cycle of frustration and struggle.
Jon kicks off season two of the podcast with More Monday as he dives into the ways that Moses both "stayed" the course and "changed" his course.
Don’t waste the wilderness. The wilderness is the kind of gift you never choose or ask for. This wilderness is a gift, don’t waste it.
