My husband is my partner in life and business and it all started in 2001 in a Yahoo chat room! Yep, I met my husband online, in a chat room. Needless to say, I think my family and friends were worried – but as the saying goes, ‘when you know, you know.’ This podcast is the story of us – before we had our company and before we had kids. It’s the story of how two people met online, and within six months were married - and now seventeen years later are still happily married! On a side note – if you like romantic comedy movie references – you’ll love this episode.
This podcast is the back-story (going back to the 90’s) where I first fell in love with sales and marketing. Back in 1995 I was a student at Cal State Long Beach looking for a job to earn some extra money and gain some real-world marketing experience. I answered a tiny newspaper ad that led me on an eight-year journey working with Vector Marketing selling CUTCO Cutlery. Yep, I was selling knives! I worked my way up in the company to become a top sales rep and manager in multiple places (one of them in Honolulu!) This was all before the internet, email and social media. This experience dramatically shaped who I am today and how we run our company.

Welcome to my podcast! Some of you know me as a social media strategist, speaker, author or entrepreneur, but, like so many of us, I wear multiple other hats. In this podcast, I plan to share with you more about what makes me tick, my backstory, how I think about business, parenting and so much more. Of course this wouldn't be a Katie Lance podcast if we didn't talk about social media from time to time!
In this episode I am taking you behind-the-scenes to share with you the "how" and "why" I started our consulting company. I get asked about this all the time and thought it would be great to tell the story as well as some lessons learned along the way.
Lessons learned:
• You don't have to be completely ready to start sometimes "done is better than perfect!"
• If I would have waited the time would have never been right
• Lean into what you know you are good at - be confident in your talents!
