It is so easy to get overwhelmed by what our eyes see.
When you look at the economy, there are countless things to complain about. When I think about a lot of things around me, I find so many reasons to sigh and complain and say, “God Abeg”(God please).
And as I sigh, a little voice in my head tells me that I am better off than a lot of people because of God’s grace. Even the fact that I don’t need an oxygen machine to breathe is a gift, so how can I use this good health I’ve been given to complain about things I have no control over and things that could be worse?
It’s not easy to be live in these times and not ask a lot of questions on where we’re headed. It’s not easy to be an adult and it definitely is not easy to live your life trusting in God with all your heart and not leaning on your own understanding of things. But that it is how we are called to live.
Proverbs 3:5-
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
TRUST. Trust in the Lord. Not trust in man. Not trust in your family. Not trust in your leaders. Not trust in your partner/spouse. But trust in the Lord and do so with all of your heart. Not part of your heart and then your spouse/ partner/ parents with the rest of your heart.
I think that many times we divide our trust. We put some trust in God, some in the money we have saved up, some with our partners. You divide your trust so that if perhaps one fails, you wouldn’t have put all your eggs in one basket. God wants all of our trust and I can imagine that this is because whatever He does can only be for our own good. Everything will fail except God. He is the only One who is the Ancient of Days. He is the only One who has been the same God since the beginning. He is the only One who is faithful a 100 percent of the time.
LEAN. To lean means to rely. Lean not on your own understanding. Do not rely or depend on what you think you know about x or x issue. Our understanding is so limited and so is our perspective. Relying on our own understanding of things is a recipe for disaster. When we only see the present moment, how can we know if this pain is for greater things to come? How can we know if our prayer wasn’t answered this year because next year, it will be answered in an even greater fashion than we could have dreamt of?
In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. Not some of your ways. ALL. There is no aspect of your life that God doesn’t care about. The Holy Spirit is your most intimate friend. Nothing is off-limits. In the big and in the small things, involve God and do not exclude Him. It is only in acknowledging Him that He can make our paths straight. It is only in acknowledging Him that we can know the right way to take at all times. It is only in acknowledging Him that you can know when to move or when to stay put. It is only in acknowledging Him that you will find your way in this maze called life.
All this doesn’t mean that trusting in God is a walk in the park. Each day, you will have to steer your heart gently back to God when you see that your trust is shifting. May God continue to help us and bring us back to Him.
I’m rooting for you!
