This is probably a well-needed episode.  Many of us today confuse words and doing so confuses views.  So if someone does not have a proper biblical understanding of words they end up with a biblical worldview that isn't biblical.  So while Hebrews 4:15 states, "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin", we often tend to believe that Jesus knows what it is like to have sinful desires.  But that is not what that verse is saying.  Jesus was tempted, yes, and He understands this but we deal with desires and sometimes those are sinful.  What's the difference?  Listen to find out.

We need to understand the complete sufficiency of the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, and that our assurance is based solely on Christ's works, not anything we do.  There seems to be confusion about the New Covenant and the completed of Christ.  Many still pray David's prayer today to have a clean heart created them when they have already received a new heart through Christ.  Many live in John's baptism even though when Paul discovered those who were living it He preached the Gospel to them.  So, Christ is seated, we know that but do we know what it means?

This is the ninth week of looking at Jude's letter that was written to protect the church against those who aim to destroy it from within.  Although many deep things are packed within these verses Jude starts to call his focus and attention on the believer.  For them to be built up in the most holy faith, keeping in the love of God, praying in the Holy Spirit, and waiting on the Lord (something different for the first-century believer compared to today).  Finally, Jude gives the church confidence to resist false teachers by reminding them they stand in the power of God. God has the power to keep or guard us from stumbling.

This second summary of Revelation brings us to the third key, the theme.  The Olivet Discourse contains Christ's prophecy of the destruction of the Temple and the Tribulation. A number of biblical scholars note that Revelation seems to be John's extended version of the Olivet Discourse and his expansion on it. So, Marcuss compares the Olivet Discourse and Revelation to show the theme of the Old Covenant ending.  The decree of Revelation is the divorce of an unfaithful bride, Israel, and taking a new bride, the Church.

Marcuss has gone over the Revelation and now wants to speak about the date.  The most important issue that confronts the reader of Revelation is the date that it was written. And there are two views: the late date view (AD 95-96), which is the current evangelical opinion and the early date view (AD 65-66). The early date view says that Revelation speaks of the birth pangs of the Kingdom, the beginning of Church history. The late date view allows for a wide variety of interpretations and comes exclusively from external evidence based on a statement made by Irenaeus in the 100's.  The safest course and more reliable is to study the Revelation itself to see what internal evidence it presents regarding the date of its writing.  Marcuss will do this while asking when was it written?  What is the proper approach?  And what is its theme?  This is all from an early date view and a first-century view of the Revelation which states is all in the past.

Jude pronounces woe upon the false teachers in the first century and by extension, all false teachers.  They have gone the way of Cain. They have rushed into the error of Balaam. And they have perished in the rebellion of Korah. Next Jude wants the church to have a better understanding of these men and how they operate so he gives six illustrations of them from examples of nature and follows by the words of the Prophet Enoch of their coming judgment.

The Temple, Jerusalem, and the Old Covenant have passed away, this is the end.  Although the language sounds much like heaven, the time restrictions used in words are prevalent, much of what is being said could not be used to describe heaven.  No, the new heavens and earth, the tree and river of life are for the healing of the nations.  Those who thirst are told to come!  How can this be a new redeemed earth with no sin if sinners are outside of the gates of a new Jerusalem and welcomed to come and thirst no more?  Because we are dealing with a language that we are removed from!  This isn't life in a utopian world like many of us have been taught all of our lives.  No, this is the New Covenant, this is the Gospel going forth to the world by the bride of Christ, the church.  This is the beginning and it happened in 70 AD.

This week looks at the use of "angelic majesties" and "blaspheming glory."  Then moving on to the text from "The Assumption of Moses" we have to ask just what is "the body of Moses."  It becomes quite simple once we think biblically and then logically to find out that Jude isn't talking about fighting over a dead corpse but rather a corporate group of people.  Marcuss also gives two options for the debated topic of rebuking the devil.

These two topics are highly debated and a source for much confusion today.  Futurists demand a literal 1,000 years in "the millennium" while ignoring the time indicators of words such as "near", "soon", and "at hand."  Marcuss explains how this is not to be taken literally and suggests the so-called "millennium" was the 40 year time period from 30 AD to 70 AD while the Old and New Covenants overlapped.  He then looks at the other unpopular notion that the devil is in fact already destroyed and dead because of the work of Jesus in the first century.
