"To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you." Here is mercy from God the Father, who is called "the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3), and peace from the Son, for "He is our peace" (Ephesians 2:14), and love from the Spirit (Romans 5:5), "because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." The Trinity is involved here and in our salvation.  So how are these things multiplied?

This episode covers chapters 6 through 8:5, looking at what happened as the seals of the scroll were broken.  The opening of the seals was God's way of declaring judgment on the Jews of the Old Covenant who rejected Jesus and the answer to the persecuted Christians of the tribulation, both enduring and killed, who were crying out for vengeance.  The first four seals were identified or tied to the four horses and the horseman.  These four horsemen would reveal to apostate Israel, by means of signs, that God had declared judgment against them.

There are people who Jude says have crept in unnoticed. These people pervert grace. They taught that they were no longer limited by the ethical teachings of Christ and could live any way they wanted to with or without sinning. Some preached that they had a new "spiritual" revelation that replaced the message of the apostle's teachings that they had brought to the church. So Jude's heretics or apostates were turning the grace of God into an excuse for flagrant immorality.  The scriptures speak on false teachers and prophets but for the life of many, we don't understand why people do not pay attention to the word of God on this manner.  So, this is an introduction to Jude's letter to the Church covering other portions of texts on false teaching.

This episode deals with chapters 4 and 5 of Revelation.  And since this has been an overview not much is spent going over chapter 4.  This shows a picture of God and His throne in imagery form.  So, these images are discussed and related to Old Testament images that we can see and relate them to.  In chapter 5 we are introduced to the sealed scroll, a scroll filled with three sevens.  Seven seals, seven trumpets and seven bowls.  It seems these have a flow, a declaration, the warning, and the execution.  This is a common pattern in the scriptures of how God carries our His judgment.  But who are the declaration, the warning, and execution for?  As you know already it is for apostate Israel for being an adulterous nation, an unfaithful bride.  This scroll is a decree, from their Husband, of divorce and only Jesus is the one who can break the seals.

You read it right, destroyed not destroys.  Listen to Marcuss explain how the paradox explanation doesn't work with this when compared to scripture.  The Bible clearly states that Jesus would come and crush the head of the devil, destroy the one who holds the power of death, destroy the works of this spiritual being and, while at it, disarm the rulers and authorities.  The problems we go through are not because of the devil but the sin that he introduced into the world which produces the works of the flesh which are evident!  May we all stop blaming the dead enemy that Jesus clearly destroyed through His death and work on ourselves to be better led by the Holy Spirit.

Thinking about leadership and what the Bible actually says about it, along with church growth, Marcuss speaks a little on "Pulpit Bullies".  Yes, it's a thing and its a misuse of the platform and the noble task of an overseer.  Anyone using time on Sunday's to beat the sheep is out of line and needs to be corrected.  So, let's look at scripture and see what God had to say to the shepherds of old that didn't look after the sheep.  Today, Jesus is the head, He is the Shepherd of all, He is the leader and we are all under Him.  All are to be fed and feeding one another and any leader that says 'follow me' instead of 'follow me as I follow Christ' probably only intends to beat and misuse the sheep.

The Revelation was written to a specific group of people living in a certain period of time.  Now, some will say it contains or includes letters written to seven churches but still the entire Revelation was given to them along with these letters that are contained within.  These churches then were also literally reading each other's mail along with the things they all needed to know as a whole.  In this episode, we look at the letters to the seven churches, their content and the function these letters have as part of Revelation as a whole.

Jesus spoke in parables many times and we know His purpose from Matthew 13:10-17.  Our task, then, is to stand at the back of the audience around Jesus and listen to what He was saying to THEM.  This means cultural and audience relevance.  Those around Him had "supposed that the Kingdom of God was to appear immediately."  So, Jesus delivers this parable about a nobleman to go off to receive a kingdom and puts the affairs of his work into the hands of his servants by entrusting to them gifts, saying to them in effect, be faithful while I am gone until I return.  Audience relevance means that those servants receiving the gift would still be around for the return of their King for Him to examine their faith within their lifetime.  This is the parable as seen in a first-century context and fulfillment.

Before moving on we have challenges to face because looking ahead after verses 1-3 in Chapter 1 we read about Jesus coming with the clouds and all the tribes of the earth mourning.  How can any of this have happened in the year 70 AD?  How does handle this or how do we limit these events to the first-century?  That's what this episode aims to address and answer.  Marcuss often gives principals of interpreting the Bible in almost all episodes of the podcast and in this one you will learn or re-learn again.  We will deal with literalism, comparing scripture with scripture, and apply these to the questions at hand.  We will be looking at other biblical examples of judgment, the use and meaning of coming on the clouds and the different uses of the word earth and the literary device of a metaphor or apocalyptic language that is used throughout the Revelation.  In doing so we will find that time restriction can be proven, and therefore, limited to a specific time period and a group of people, those whom the Revelation was written to.

The Bible teaches that the reward of believers is everlasting life, while the punishment of the wicked is just as the Scriptures state—death, which is the opposite of life. As the wicked will have no escape from death, it is eternal punishment.  It is talking about the result of the action and not the action itself. The punishment is death and that is eternal. The destruction of the wicked in the lake of fire is permanent. It is a punishment that cannot be reversed. The act of punishing will come to an end, but the consequences will last for eternity.
