  • Bringing Out the Dead
With Body Horror July in the rearview mirror, we move on to Patricia Arquette August with a look at her only collaboration with auteur Martin Scorsese: Bringing Out the Dead. The film stars Nicolas Cage as Frank Pierce, an ambulance paramedic who crosses paths with Arquette's Mary over three nights on the drug-riddled streets of New York City. Based on the novel by Joe Connelly, its a look at addiction and loss that couldn't feel more timely. Award-winning screenwriter, Jess Byard joins Chris to talk about the film, Scorsese's b-sides, and why the film isn't as well known.

  • Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Body Horror July comes to a close with a film that's part Eraserhead, part Videodrome, but entirely Japanese: Tetsuo: The Iron Man. The film follows a businessman who accidentally murders a metal fetishist who ends up getting his revenge by slowly turning the businessman into a disgusting mass of flesh, metal, and rust. It culminates with a fight scene that has to be seen to be believed including more metal, cords, and rust than any metal fetishist could ever hope for. It's an exciting take on body horror from a uniquely Japanese director and an excellent way to close out the month. Award-winning screenwriter Jess Byard joins Chris once again to talk metal, the fantastic practical effects, and a certain drilldo.

  • Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood
Body Horror July is on hold for the final time to cover the ninth and latest film from cinematic plagiarist, Quentin Tarantino: Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood. The film follows Leonardo DiCaprio as an aging actor attempting to hang on to the last vestiges of his popularity while his stuntman/bodyguard/best friend played by Brad Pitt has a solo adventure through 1969 Hollywood. Margot Robbie is also in the film as Sharon Tate but even Tarantino seems to have forgotten that she was number three billed and a massive presence in the advertising. Highball TV and Canadian director Matt Campagna and The Projection Booth's Mike White joins Chris to talk Tarantino's latest film, why Margot Robbie was even in the film, and the director's filmography and influence as a whole.

  • Dead Alive
Body Horror July nears its conclusion with a look at a film that helped launch the career of one of the most prolific filmmakers of all time even if it features some of the most creative gore in cinema history: Dead Alive. Directed by Peter Jackson, it follows the shy Lionel who falls in love with gorgeous Paquita only to find that his overbearing mother has become an undead ghoul and is attempting to thwart their love even from the grave. It's an inventively gory, over-the-top bloodfest that utilizes every inch of the human body in disgustingly hilarious fashion with a final act that is near bloody perfection. The Projection Booth's Mike White joins Chris to chat about Jackson's filmography before and since, the climax of the film, and the interesting connection to Sam Raimi.

  • The Stuff
Body Horror July hits the halfway point with a look at one of Larry Cohen's writer/director satirical pieces: The Stuff. Michael Moriarty stars as Mo, a business saboteur, who is being paid by the big dessert industry to figure out where The Stuff, a mysterious addictive dessert, comes from. It's a film that relies too much on comedy and satire and not enough on the horrific aspects of how The Stuff transforms folks into desiccated husks. Chris is joined by OughtFive Films' Father Malone to talk about the film, Larry Cohen's body of work, and how 80's body horror falls flat in certain aspects.

  • Spider-Man: Far From Home
Body Horror July is once again put on hold to talk about Marvel's latest blockbuster cinematic universe outing sure to make more money than anyone knows what to do with: Spider-Man: Far From Home. Tom Holland returns as the friendly neighborhood webhead who's school trip to Europe is interrupted by the arrival of elemental monsters bent on destruction and a new mysterious hero played by Jake Gyllenhaal. It's a Spider-Man film so good it'll make you forget it's somehow still being made partially by Sony. Highball TV and Canadian director Matt Campagna joins Chris to talk Mysterio, the end of Phase 3, and where the MCU goes from here.

  • Child's Play (2019)
Body Horror July is put on hold to take a look at the latest horror film to be unnecessarily rebooted for no reason other than that sweet, sweet cash: Child's Play. The film follows the same formula as the original film except for the Chucky doll being a malfunctioning animatronic doll as opposed to a doll possessed by the soul of a serial killer. It's a definitively 21st century spin on the tried and true killer doll trope that is more middle of the road than failure or success.  Chris is joined once again by award-winning screenwriter Jess Byard to discuss the film, the casting of Mark Hamill as Chucky, and why the film was rated R.

  • Kuso
Body Horror July continues with a look at a film so revolting, shocking, nonsensical, and downright weird that it may be a first for the Kulturecast: Kuso. The film is less of a structured narrative and more of an audio-visual exploration focusing on Los Angeles after a significant earthquake. Inspired by works such as Salad Fingers and other Flying Lotus projects, it's a disturbing, disgusting foray into the mind of Steven Ellison. Chris is joined by award-winning screenwriter Jess Byard to talk about the film, why its on Shudder, and who in their right mind would enjoy the movie.

  • Antiviral
With Jess Byard June at a close, we now kickoff Body Horror July with a look at the progeny of David Cronenberg's first film, Antiviral. The film follows Caleb Landry Jones as Syd March, a lab technician at a company that sells celebrity viruses, who gets infected with a viral pathogen that is seemingly incurable. He then attempts not only to cure himself but also sell the celebrity virus to the highest bidder. The Projection Booth's Mike White joins Chris to talk Brandon Cronenberg's directorial debut, whether or not the film leans into body horror, and Caleb Landry Jones' performance.

  • The Final Girls
Jess Byard June comes to a close with a look at a slasher film that has become not only classic within the summer camp subgenre but also a thoughtful and pointed meta entry along with movies such as Scream: The Final Girls. The film stars Taissa Farmiga as Max, daughter of late scream queen Amanda, who gets transported alongside her friends into her late mother's most well-known film where they attempt to best the killer and change the outcome of the film. Supported by a fantastic cast, pitch-perfect soundtrack, and a script that not only pays homage to its slasher source material but also builds upon it; it's a film that deserves all to become a contemporary cult classic.  Award-winning screenwriter and namesake of the month Jess Byard joins Chris once again to talk the movie, it's the use of color and sound, and why it hasn't become better known.
