Our next guest on the tenth episode of the Leader’s Podcast is Tanatsei Gambura (@tanagambura).
Tanatsei regards herself as a poet, intermedia artist and cultural practitioner. Growing up in Zimbabwe, at the age of 17, Tanatsei started the 25 May Movement, a movement established to create awareness and a sense of responsibility for people in her community about the future of the continent.
Over the years, the movement (derived from Africa day) has evolved and grown into a nationwide broadcasting series in Zimbabwe. It currently publishes short films and facilitates seminal workshops and empowering programs for free.
It was only a matter of time that in late 2019, Tanatsei would be named a Diana Award recipient for her organisation. The award is recognised as one of the most prestigious accolades any young person aged 9-25 can receive for their social action. Many view this achievement as an incredible stepping stone in her work. However, Tanatsei views the achievement as an affirmation.
Today, Tanatsei is an undergraduate student at Edinburgh University, UK, where she’s studying a BA in Intermedia art, an interdisciplinary coursed based arts program.
Join us as Tanatsei talks to us about her journey growing The 25 May Movement and the challenges she’s had to overcome throughout the evolution of her organisation.
