On tonight's episode of Liberal Dan radio I focus on DNA. Plant DNA. Human DNA. And if we have time, I will go back into some of the recent developments into the Kate Hunt case.

Whe owns your DNA? I have already discussed how corporations are trying to patent your DNA (when what they really should be patenting is the process to find that specific gene). Now, government believes that it has the authority to keep your DNA it collects in perpetuity. Something just doesn't seem right about that. 

Then in ruling that seems in complete contradiction to the previous one, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Monsanto and is treating corn seeds as if they were mp3s.

This week I have on as a guest John Sheirer, author of Tales of a Real American Liberal. When Sarah Palin discussed the "real America" during the 2008 campaign, Mr. Sheirer was motivated into action to show how patriotism and love of country need not come from the narrowly defined view of modern Conservatism. John Sheirer was made in what Palin would call "Real America" and it caused him to grow into a proud American liberal.

Thursday, May 23rd, on Liberal Dan Radio:

Does your DNA belong to you? A lawsuit has been filed against Myriad Genetics. Myriad claims to own the gene BRCA1, the same gene used to determine that Angelina Jolie has a higher risk of breast cancer than normal. It also claims to own the BRCA2 gene as well. Can one own a patent on a gene that your own body creates? Can one own a patent on a design on how to test for those genes? Can one own a patent on all forms of ways to test for those genes regardless of if they develop those tests or not? I will go over the myriad issues surrounding this case and what it means for individuals who are seeking to see if they are also at risk.

Also, a Florida high school student who is 18 has been charged with raping her 15 year old female classmate. Some are blaming the religious beliefs of the 15 year old girl as the cause of the charges against the older student. Is it really correct to make this a gay rights issue? Would religious parents have accepted it had the 18 year old student been male?

Finally, a new Planned Parenthood will be opening in New Orleans. I will go over the arguments made by those opposed to the opening of this new center and explain why they are horribly wrong.

After reviewing the headlines and going over some of the silliness that happened in Jefferson Parish last Saturday when it came to tolls and taxes, Liberal Dan Radio will actually start talking about the oral argumetns made in the Supreme Court about DOMA.

Seriously.

Tonight on Liberal Dan Radio: 

I could not get to DOMA this week because of the other topics being discussed. So I will start that conversation next week.

However, since the toll election is this Saturday, I also wanted to have a discussion with Bambi Hall, Public Information Officer for the LA DOTD. In an election where both sides have shared some falsehoods, I wanted to clear some up so voters can be informed. 

Brief discussions will also be had on the silliness of zero tolerance policies and on how the media can do major harm to individuals when they report on who has been accused of a crime. 

And, as always, I will present a snarky view at this week's headlines, present the tweet of the week, and share some   words of redneck wisdom.

The George W Bush Presidential Library opened today. Is it time to look back at Bush's legacy?

Early voting for the toll issue has started. How are the anti-toll advocates misleading people? What new information has popped up? Are Jefferson Parish officials purposefully supressing the vote?

And CISPA came up for a vote this week and it flew through the House. Does it stand a chance of becoming law? Is the law needed for our security or an overreaching governmental attack on our civil liberties.

On tonight's episode of Liberal Dan Radio, I will discuss some of the hypocrisies of the Tea Party Conservatives.

First, they claim that Obamacare was passed agains the will of the people. A claim that is both false and hypocritical based on a recent Senate vote.

Then, they claim they don't want government to "tread" on them but are more than willing to use government to read on others. Which will lead the discussion to the continued look at the SCOTUS prop 8 hearings.

Tonight on Liberal Dan Radio I continue the discussion of the Prop 8 arguments made in front of the supreme court. Today I will finish off the comments made by the petitioners, the challengers, and the Solicitor General of the United States.

Yeah Yeah Yeah

On this week's episode of Liberal Dan Radio, the discussion continues about the Supreme Court hearings over gay marriage issues.

In this episode I will discuss one of the items that was debated between the sides of the argument and the justices and that is if someone has standing to bring a case to court or to defend a ballot initiative for the state on an appeal. Is it smart for the anti-prop 8 people to argue that Mr. Cooper does not have standing? Should Mr. Cooper have standing? Are the rules of who can appeal a decision too strict? How does that apply to one of the local issues I have been dealing with.

If time remains, I will discuss the remaining sound bites discussing the merits of the actual case.

Tonight on Liberal Dan Radio:

I will go into several areas where some Conservatives just don't understand what is going on.

This will be the first of many shows where I go into the recent arguments made at the Supreme Court on the topic of marriage equality. There is a lot of audio so this topic will be split over several shows. But on this show I want to talk about some arguements made by Conservatives on this issue that show they are out of touch.

 

I also want to talk about the topic of Dr. Ben Carson. He is a well respected and well awarded Doctor who made history. However, he is also a conservative and he happens to be black. Conservatives must think that this affords him a pass. And when they raise him up as a possible Presidential Candidate and liberals attack his stances, the liberals are called racist. But who are the real racists here (if any)?
