The Liberal Dan Radio Program episodes

  • Filiflustered
On the December 4th, 2013 Episode of Liberal Dan Radio:

I am back. After a month of vacation and sickness I am back and I am angry at my own party over what happened with the filibuster. It was wrong. I talk about some of my feelings over at the blog. However, in this show I will review how the nuclear option works, my history of being opposed to it, and how hypocrisy abounds on both sides of the aisle with its use.
There are also more updates about the Affordable Care Act. See how some insurers acted in bad faith in forcing people to lose their policies that they liked. I will also discuss an anecdotal success story coming from a Republican who likes the plan she got.
Finally, someone posted a picture of a science test that includes questions about God. The school was non-public and religious. I will explain why having such subjects as part of the curriculum is harmful to both the children at the school and to society as a whole.
All that, headlines, words of redneck wisdom, tweet of the week, an update from Bryan at Cool Mini Or Not and more tonight on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From the Left, That's Right!
And if you are listening to the show after the podcast, you can feel free to comment over at liberaldan.com.

  • It's the context, stupid!
On the October 30th episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
The Baracknaphobes and the Obamascared are still going at it. In their deperate and pathetic attempts to stop the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
In this episdoe I will go into some of the recent lies, including the claims that are being made out of context about his words.
Hmmm, where did we see that before?
Those topics, words of redneck wisdom, tweet of the week, headlines and more tonight on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right.

  • More government or less government?
On the October 23, 2013 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
The simplest breakdown between the two main sides of the political spectrum is if you need more government or if you need less government. So I want to have that discussion today. Where are the places where more government intervention is needed? Where are the places where less government intervention is needed?
Many of the people who are against the Affordable Care Act believe that it is a governmental power grab. They believe that it is government run wild and that government shouldn't have a place at the table. They believe in free market solutions. Do they work? Is full government intervention the answer? I will look at Texas (of all places) to show where a good mix of government and private ownership may be able to bring a better solution.
The recent case regarding the arrest of two students after a bullied girl killed herself has also opened the discussion of if we need more or less government. Is bullying a right of passage that government has no right to interfere with? Would cracking down on bullying by making it a crime violate free speech rights? Or does the right to be kept free of harm enable he state to come down and place strict penalties for those who wish to torture and torment other people.
A campaign flyer in New Orleans was published before the last election seeking to turn voters away form voting for an openly gay candidate. Should there be stricter laws dealing with such mailers or would that also be a violation of free speech rights?
I will also look back at the Erin Cox case and check for updates.
Those issues, tweet of the week, headlines, words of redneck wisdom and more, tonight on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right.

  • Insanity at all levels
On the October 16, 2013 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
The debt ceiling and government shutdown debates are supposedly coming to an end (at least in the short term). I am not holding my breath until the last vote passes as the President signs the bill into law. But why are we having this insantity?  Who is to blame? Is there shared blame? Some Conservatives are even saying that President Obama is to blame for all the divisiveness we are having in this country. Is that another example of insanity?
Steve Scalise (R-LA) has an "alternative" healthcare proposal on his website that other Conservatives are also supporting. That policy, in and of itself, is insane. I will go into that explanation as well.
There is insanity  in other areas as well. Zero tolerance policies are another example of insanity. A high school teenager who did the right thing is one of the most recent victims of these insane policies.
Insanity even takes place in the air. A passenger on one airline was forced to purchase two seats. Listen to why this is insane in headlines and I will discuss it more in the show.
Have any more examples of insanity, call in (or respond to the Liberaldan.com blog post if you are not listening live and share your ideas).

  • More on Obamacare Liars
On the October 9th episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
I will be continuing the discussion of the lies surrounding the Affordable Care Act. Some have popped up just recently in the last week and some have been around for a while. I will go over some of the newer ones (like people who try and compare premium costs with yearly costs) and some of the older ones (like the lie that Conservatives repeat that they must be right on healthcare if a majority of people polled oppose the law).
I will also go into a little bit of the government shutdown. Who is really to blame? Various opinions have been given and I will go over some of them here.
Those topics, Words of Redneck Wisdom, Headlines, Tweet of the Week and more, on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right.

  • How to deal with the Obamascared
On the October 2nd episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
This eposide will be devoted to the Affordable Care Act, i.e. Obamacare.
What does it mean for you? What are the benefits? Are there any drawbacks? Is the law perfect? What would I change about the law?
But this just scratches the surface of what we can talk about when it comes to Obamacare. There is also the vast criticisms from the right wing about how bad it is. If the law was that bad, why wouldn't the Republicans allow it to fall flat on its face?
And what are the lies out there? Conservatives are spreading all sorts of lies about the law and they need to be debunked. Is Congress and the Presdient really "exempted" from the law? Is that even possible? If not, where does that idea come from?
What about the idea that Obama lied about losing your coverage? What did he say? If someone loses coverage between the passage of the law and now, does that mean that Obama lied?
I also had on Charlie Daniels and we discussed his blog post about Obamacare here.
And that just scratches the surface. All of those topics plus headlines, the tweet of the week, words of redneck wisdom and more Wednesday on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right.

  • Baracknaphobes assemble!
On the September 18th, 2013 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
The Baracknaphobes are at it again. This time they believe that your dermatologist is going to be required to ask you about your sexual history. Of course the author provides no proof so we are supposed to believe the crazies. The Baracknaphobes still refuse to give Obama credit for doing what they gave credit to Bush for. How far down the well do they have to fall? Is there a bottom?
A shooting took place in D.C. Is this proof that more gun control is needed? Has this country gone crazy for guns? Can we find a happy medium that protects gun rights while protecting innocent people from getting shot?
I will also talk about my recent trip to Tampa to see the Saints play. I have some very good highlights and some very bad examples of stupidity as well.
Finally, I will rant a little bit about TV, pedicabs, bikes and some other random things.
All that, tweet of the week, headlines, words of redneck wisdom and more, Wednesday on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right.

  • More On Florida Gun Owners
On the September 11th, 2013 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
George Zimmerman was detained by Florida Police involving an altercation with his wife, father in law, and yes a gun. I wonder how he will avoid jail time this time.
Florida does have its share of lunatics. Another person is using both "Stand Your Ground" and the "Bush Doctrine" in defense of his shooting his neighbors. William T Woodward has shot three men, killing two, because he felt tormented by them. Seems legit...
And not to be outdone by the lunacy in Florida, Iowa is issuing gun perments to blind people. Seriously.
Finally, this is the 12th anniversary of 9/11. Will we learn the lessons of that day or will we continue to make the same mistakes that we made afterwards? And have the Conservatives gone off the reservation with their response to Obama's use of force and how it successfully caused Putin to act with their ally Syria.
All that, headlines, tweet of the week, words of redneck wisdome and more on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right.

  • Ethics Alarms with Jack Marhsall
On the September 4, 2013 episode of Liberal Dan Radio I welcome Jack Marshall to the program. Jack is an ethicist and a lawyer. He is also the president of Pro Ethcis, Ltd and the author of the blog Ethics Alarms.
    According to the website:
"Ethics Alarms are the feelings in your gut, the twinges in your conscience, and the sense of caution in your brain when situations involving choices of right and wrong are beginning to develop, fast approaching, or unavoidable. The better your alarms work and the sooner they start sounding, the more likely you are to do the right thing, or at least to use good ethical reasoning to decide what to do. This is a blog that aspires to help keep everyone’s ethics alarms in good working order."
Jack and I will discuss several of the topics that he has brought up on his blog and several others if time permits.
Of course I will also have headlines, tweet of the week, words of redneck wisdom, and more on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right.

  • Syria, Katrina, and I Have a Dream
On the August 29th, 2013 Episode of Liberal Dan radio:
This is the 8th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina making landfall in Louisiana. What has happened since then. Are we better off? How are we still being failed? What needs to improve?
The Obama Administration is currently weighing our options after evidence points to Syria using illegal chemical weapons against the rebels. Do we need to get involved? Is this our problem or the worlds problem? Should we be more patient? Will anything this President does be considered correct by Republicans? Are there other reasons why we care about what is going on in Syria while ignoring other massacres around the world (i.e. Africa)?
Finally, this week marks the 50th anniversary of the Martin Luther King speech at the march on Washington. Conservatives are complaining that more conservative folks were not invited. Republicans like to say that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican himself. I will go into why the Conservatives and the Republican Party needs to clean up some of their behavior before complaining about a lack of inclusion in the festivities.
Those topics, headlines, tweet of the week and more, tonight on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right.
Remember, the show is moving to Wednesdays starting next week.
