Type 9 is triple the fun!! We talk with spouse of 2-time guest, Sarah McQuown. Jeremy is a pastoral counselor and identifies as an Enneagram Type 9. Since our very own Katie and Mary also identify as dominant in Type 9, we get to hear 3 expressions of this type in our 2-part episode. Join us for Part 1, where we identify primary features and have some real talk about anger. Check in next week for the major tips and quotes from our Type 9 discussion.

We sit down to discuss our response to our episodes with Types 6-8. We also read some anonymous feedback from those types.
Tips: For sure, for types less in touch with emotions, the discipline of daily journal writing forces you to slow down and get in touch with what you’re actually feeling. Yoga is also a practice that we recommend for every type. When trying to conceptualize your own type, or someone else's, remember the Enneagram number is not the whole entity of a person. Ian Cron speaks of “shades” of a color, or a “low resolution” picture.

To explore Enneagram Type 8, we sit down again with photographer Kelly Topping, from our Dec 2019 Art Episode. She is joined by her best friend, Laurie Stephenson, who is also sister to Leah, our Enneagram Type 4. We learn more about Type 8s, with twice the impact, as both these women identify as this number.
Tips from Kelly and Laurie (Type 8s): Enneagram 8s have a dislike and distrust of people behaving in "fake" manner. Underneath an exterior that can be intimidating, these types have a tender heart that desires honest and real connections. Also, if you put a straw in your movie theater popcorn bucket and pump the butter through it while slowly pulling it up to the top of the bucket, you can get butter on every level!!
Major Quotes: “Our thing is a battle of the mind, where we have to get in a good place to be successful, or we’ll become confrontational- with ourselves and with other people”.
How to show love to 8s:
Let them have their "moment". Let them vent. Love them in their vulnerability and honesty. Don’t tell them how they "should" feel or react at these times.

We have another visit with our hospitality expert, Sarah McQuown. Beth McCord names the Type 7 "The Entertaining Optimist", and we couldn't imagine a better suited guest to give us a glimpse into this joyful number. Sarah shares so well about what gives the unique flavor to this Enneagram type.
Tips from Sarah (Type 7): Learning at an early age that people prefer to be around fun, happy people can contribute to a 7 perfecting that outlook and having some difficulty expressing or handling more negative emotions.
Major Quotes: I learned at an early age how to please people. I knew that putting on a smile, being cheerful, being kind, being happy was pleasing to people. When I was going through hard times, it wasn’t as easy for people to be around me.
How to show love to 7s: Be willing to do a fun activity with a 7 that enjoy doing. Be a cheerleader to a 7, in much the same way they are to others. Don’t just shoot down a plan, but instead encourage them to write it down and see how they might practically implement it. Really listen to a Type 7.

We sit down with Licensed Counselor Kauri Tallant and do a deep dive into Enneagram Type 6 from a personal and professional viewpoint. You don't want to miss the wisdom for the type 6 in all of us that is shared in this episode!
Tips from Kauri (Type 6): Try to avoid the Enneagram caricature of classifying anyone with anxiety as a Type 6. Because of the efficient way that many 6s have learned to manage stress, when they look most together, they may be struggling the most.
Major Quote: “In a broken, fallen world, anxiety is really helpful to warn us about threats. I don’t want to take anything to get rid of my anxiety, I just want it to be calibrated in a way that is helpful to me and others".
How to show love to 6s: Ask the 6 specific questions about how they are doing and be willing to provide the time and space to give them a chance to process their answer without feeling rushed. Check in with 6s to make sure they are doing okay. Don't be dismissive of their anxieties and recognize how their anxiety is often related to wanting the best for everyone, and not just about their personal needs.

Katie and Hope sit down with Mary's husband, Attorney Matthew Poston, to geek out on Enneagram Type 5. Some of the wide-ranging topics include the ideas of competency, engaging in debate, and what 8s and 5s have in common.
Major Quote: “Why are you associating your 'I' with the thinking portion?”
Tip: If a 5 has agreed to do something, they have predetermined they have the resources to do so. Exercise can be a very helpful practice to allow the 5 to engage with their body vs spending so much time in their head.
How to show love to 5s: Understand time alone is not a reflection about the status of a relationship, but a need to be alone to process. Give 5s time to process and realize that we enjoy thinking and sometimes want to be left alone to engage in this.

We sit down with Leah Stevenson, a childhood friend of Mary's and our Enneagram 4 guest. Leah shares the joys and trials on her journey of becoming a healthier Enneagram 4. We discuss how to best help 4s in personal relationships, from marriage to parenting to friendship. Don't miss this one!
Tips from Leah (Type 4): For children experimenting with creative outfits, consider asking them “What are you trying to convey? What feeling do you want people to have when they see you?” Remember that, “Not all melancholy is bad. Sometimes you have to dig the well before the spring rises up”. It is valuable to identify your core values and be real and honest with yourself.
Major Quote: “With the right partners, we can do the work in a safe place”.
How to show love to 4s: Give some space to allow melancholy or distressed feelings, but then pursue the 4 and listen to them share what is on their heart/mind. Remind them the qualities they currently possess that make them special and valuable to you in your relationship.

Y'all. We are beyond excited to launch Season 2 and our Enneagram series with author Michelle DeRusha who identifies as an Enneagram 3!!! Michelle offers such great insight for life in general and speaks eloquently to the Type 3 qualities in all of us. Hope and Mary recorded this episode on Oct 17, 2019 and Mary shares the significance of that date.
Tips from Michelle (Type 3): Slow down and ask self how present you are in the moment. Ask what you are thinking and feeling right now and explore different opportunities to discover what YOU really like, apart from producing something or being what someone else wants you to be.
Major quote: “Once you know that, you can’t un-know it. I just couldn’t go on pretending”.
How to show love to 3s: Read up/learn about Enneagram 3s. Really take time to listen, give space for a 3 to recognize and change the cycles and be understanding about the work it takes to do so.
