We sit down with Rachel to get real truth about eating disorders and the road to recovery. In order to retain the raw conversation as well as respect the listener’s preferences, we are offering two versions of this honest talk. Please look at the titles to ensure you’re listening to the one that best suits your needs.
Tips from Rachel:
For ones who struggle: “The only way to be of service to others is to be of better service to yourself”. Find ways to figure out what you need and communicate that to those around you in the support community you develop to help you on this journey.
For family: Do your best to ask questions- to get curious. Recognize the ED is not about you, but be willing to ask yourself, “Am I creating an environment for wellness, or am I creating an environment for this situation to just continue?”

Hope and Mary sit down with local business woman Katriesa Secada and get some perspective for the focus of this season- "You're not alone".
Quotes from this episode:
We’re human kind and we’re supposed to be kind to all humans. Act kind, choose kind. That’s all a mean person needs to see anyway. Growth doesn’t happen in comfy zones.

A long time ago in a land far away (aka Texas, January, 2020) Katie and Mary sat down with sisters, Courtney and Whitney, to discuss ways to practice minimalism and the challenges to doing so. We hope you enjoy the conversation and learn some helpful tips that you might now have some time to try!
Tips from this Episode:
The point is not to get rid of everything that you own. The point is to make room for what you love. Consider a color scheme for moving towards a minimalist wardrobe. The goal is room to breathe.

During a time when we're mostly indoors, it seemed like a good idea to revisit the tips from our de-cluttering expert, Laurie Malloy! Please enjoy this replay of our conversation last summer. The original shownotes are below:
We get to talk with Laurie Malloy, founder and owner of Simple Spaces, LLC, and a personal coach and speaker. Prepare to be challenged in the best way possible, as Laurie drops non-stop truth bombs on us!
Tips from Laurie Malloy:
“Clutter is postponed decisions” (via Barbara Hemphill). Identify your core values and make sure you have a truth-teller in your life. Start small, have grace for yourself. Start organizing with Julie Morgenstern’s method:
Sort (like with like)
Purge
Assign a home
Containerize
Equalize

One name for Enneagram Type 2s, is "The Befriender" . In Part Two of our conversation with Theresa Merrill, the topic of friendships plays a big role. Join us for stories of the early days of friendship between Hope and Theresa!
Tips from our Type 2: It’s okay to say no. The people that truly love you will love you anyway. Figure out what you need.
Major Quote: “It’s not about NOT wanting to vocalize needs. I don’t know what I need”.
How to show love to 2s: Showing love to a 2 might look like letting them know they are seen and love through asking them and letting them answer how they are truly doing and feeling.

In Part 1 of 2, we sit down with Theresa Merrill, long-time friend of Hope and the person responsible for our introduction to the Enneagram!! Theresa identifies as an Enneagram Type 2, and we explore the facets of this type that Beth McCord names "The Supportive Advisor". Check back next week for this episode's major quote and ways to better love our Type 2s.
Part One Tips for Type 2s:
Type 2s often report not knowing what they need for themselves. One place to start exploring this is with self care. Self care for a 2 very often might look like just saying no. Consider trying this out with cold calls from marketers. Don’t explain why you say no, just say no.

Part 2 of this conversation continues to examine ways that we can better understand and love the Type 1s in our lives. Cyrus (Adam) Smith gives some more helpful tips for us all, and Katie shares some more insight regarding a yoga practice.
Tips from our Type 1: Work to not take criticism from others personally, and it can be helpful to know that person really cares about you and wants the best for you.
Major quote: “When I do feel tension, instead of being frustrated, try to change my thought patterns to, ‘here’s an invitation to take a deep breath and just be present in the moment’, and realize that whatever it was that caused that tension…I don’t have to let it define me”. How to show love to 1s: Have loyalty in dealing with the Type 1. Also, when people can acknowledge the fact that the 1 is dealing with an intense inner critic voice and be able to not take it personally, and help the 1 out of that space.

We host our first international guest!! Join us for Part 1 of a conversation with Cyrus (aka Adam) Smith, who identifies an Enneagram Type 1. Check back next week for this episode's quote and ways to better love Type 1.
Part One Tips for Type 1s: Realize it takes at least 6 months of meditation practice to tell if it's making a positive difference. Practice observing thoughts and not making a judgment about them or ruminating in that critical mindset. Friends that don’t judge and “maybe like me more than I like myself” help bring out the secure side. Also getting into a “flow state” where one can lose track of time is helpful to quiet the inner critic.

We continue our conversation on Type 9s, with our own Katie and Mary, and guest Jeremy McQuown. Make sure to listen to part 1 if you haven't yet heard it! You don't want to miss hearing the common traits of Enneagram Type 9.
Tips from our Type 9s: Don’t interpret a 9s lack of response as not caring. Consider that they are worn out from caring so much for others that they need some downtime to recharge. If you suspect you are parenting a 9, give them opportunities to choose and “impact the things they can impact”.
Major Quote: On a heart level with 9s, there is a longing for peace and harmony and relational connection with people that we’re going to engage in a relationship and a situation, whatever it my be, with good intentions.
How to show love to 9s: Hold space. See me. Care for my opinions and listen. Focus on what I do, not what I have not done. Helping bring peace to the environment is a loving gesture to a Type 9.
