  • December Art Episode with photographer Kelly Topping

We sit down with photographer Kelly Topping and she shares her testimony of moving from darkness to light and how this relates to photography. We learn about the Greek word for photography, and how Kelly stopped believing lies about who she was and what she was capable of doing. Kelly discusses the importance of truly loving people.

Tips: Photography is about seeing people differently. Comparison is the thief of all joy- it will rob you and put you in depression. Stop believing the lies- break up with them!

  • Self Exploration and Creating Life Goals: Part 2 of a Conversation with Kimberly Boyd, MS, LPC-S

We'd love to have you join us on Thanksgiving as we continue to talk about ways to change our mindset, including a daily habit of gratitude! Kimberly Boyd reveals her morning routine and we each answer an "Empowering" question. Kimberly shares what she learned at the Rise Conference about creating and achieving goals.

    Tips:
Write 10 goal statements each day, but only focus on achieving one at a time. Write out statements for your day, such as what time you will wake up and in what frame of mind. Be intentional about how and where you are spending your time!

  • Self-Improvement: Part 1 of a Conversation with Therapist Kimberly Boyd, MS, LPC-S

We sit down with Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and owner of Kimberly Boyd Counseling Center (KBCC) to discuss self improvement, positive thinking, and Kimberly's experience at the Rachel Hollis Rise event over the summer. We find out what elephants have to do with women's empowerment and we explore the reasons women can be so judgmental towards other women and ourselves. We discuss Kimberly's 2 "rules" for the counselors she trains.

Tips from this Episode:  Know your "why" and your passion (but consider not using the word "why" when questioning others!). Connection with others allows us to improve our perspective of ourselves. A small step is to compliment another woman. The good and the bad can serve as fuel- think about the process of making a pearl.

  • November Art Episode with Music Minister Katelyn Glazener

We sit down with Music Minister Katelyn Glazener to discuss the art of music and how she uses it in her life and in her church service. Katelyn's enjoyment of music is apparent in her conversation.
We talk about the well-rounded developmental benefits of music and the sad lack of music teachers these days.  Below are some tips and discussion points from this episode.

    Points to Ponder:
You can take music with you throughout your life. Parents might do well to think if playing an instrument may be more attractive to your child if devices aren’t as readily available. Also, consider if devices in general may be making you respond to your family members in an irritated fashion and maybe approach your children regarding this topic in a way that presents you as the parent as struggling with this. If you play an instrument yourself, perhaps you could informally share some of what you know with those you spend time around, especially younger people. If you decide to purchase an instrument, consider talking to someone experienced with that instrument before you make your purchase!

  • Life and Trees: A Conversation with ISA Certified Arborist Paul Lloyd-Jones

We have a conversation with Hope’s brother Paul about the health and structure of trees. The similarities to the health and structure of relationships is pretty astonishing! Paul gives helpful tips all throughout and links below will take you to sites for more information about trees and how to hire a professional to address your tree concerns.

Tip from Paul: “A good arborist should be able to hear your concerns/goals for your trees or property and make recommendations, explaining the reasoning behind them. Any Joe Schmoe can give you a price to ‘take off some limbs’ or ‘remove that tree’".

  • Finding the Special with Special Needs Children: Conversation with RN Gabrielle Presnull

We talk to RN and mom "Ella" Presnull about her journey of a high risk delivery and birth of her daughter who was born with special needs. Break out your tissue box as we get real about the struggles and joys of parenting events that turn out differently than we expect! Ella's tips for being a good parent and a good friend are so helpful!

    Tips from this episode:
Separate your parent role from your professional role. Especially if you work in a medical profession, it can change the approach of the providers if you try to act in your professional capacity vs your parental one. Consider whether your parenting choices are based on wanting to be a good parent or coming from a place of fear and guilt. If you have a NICU baby, trust the nurses and go home and take a break to take care of yourself and your other family members. Consider asking good friends to do a relief sit-in for you. Being thankful and grateful can change your perspective even when your circumstances have not changed. Be sensitive to the fact that making a big deal on social media about milestones your child has reached might be hurtful to others who have children who struggle to reach milestones. Try to love your child well and enjoy them where they are regardless of the milestones they may or not be reaching. Make your “have to” your “get to”.
How to support your friends with special needs children: Be present and engaged. Find out what works for your special needs family, and try to provide that. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and don’t be afraid to be a part of their lives, because you’re wanted and they need you.
