Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we continue our Advent 2020 series of prayers.  Today we are reading out of John 1:5 which says "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

"This verse solidifies why he came. God said it wasn’t going to be easy. He said that there will be dark times, but that our faith will be stronger. This verse says the light shines in the darkness. And the darkness has not overcome it. Jesus wins.

 

So as you go about your day today, you might be struggling in a season. Maybe you just graduated, but you failed a class that will hold you back from getting your degree. Maybe you are going through some tough times with your health or the health of a family member. Maybe your dad is in the hospital fighting COVID-19. Maybe you are searching for a community of people to live life with. There can be so many different possibilities.

 

At then end of the day, whatever you are walking through, God has you, the light shines in the darkness.

 

2 Timothy 1:6-7 says “For the spirit God gave us does not makes us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”

 

Take that verse and hold onto it. Declare it over your situation. He gave us power. Power to walk into a room and declare the light to shine in the darkness. He gave us love and self-discipline. So take this verse and apply it to your morning. If you need to get back on track with proper eating habits, remember that he gave us self-discipline. If you need to declare healing over your body, remember that he gave you power.

 

Jesus came 2,000 years ago and changed the world forever."
