This week’s podcast episode is all about stepping outside of your comfort and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. This is important when looking at your personal and business goals as most of the action will require you to be scared and/or uncomfortable. I urge you to feel the fear and do it anyway!
You see it is well documented that most people stay in their comfort zone and live a ‘comfortable’ life, but what if you could learn to step outside of your comfort zone and live an ‘extraordinary’ life? If things do not challenge you they won’t change you and challenges are all on the other side of that comfort zone.
But how do we get outside of our comfort zone?
Outside the comfort zone is where the magic happens! You increase creativity, improve self-confidence, increase your chances of success and encourage growth opportunities (personally and professionally). For me I have many outside of my comfort zone items on my list including; competing in a bodybuilding show, spend time on my own enjoying my own company at a spa and speaking on stage at The Landscape Show - to name a few. What are you doing to step outside of your comfort zone?
Over in The Landscaper’s Circle this year we are looking forward to welcoming in the next cohort of students for our From The Ground Up course - perfect if you are starting or have just started your own landscaping or garden design business. Find out more and join the waitlist here.
We are are starting Monday 30th January at 9.30am kicking off with a Welcome call via Zoom. Get your name on the waitlist to get some added bonuses too!

This week’s podcast episode is the first of the brand new year 2023! In this episode I am talking about vision boards, why they are great, what the point of them are and sharing our family ones with you.
It is the start of a new year and the perfect time to start thinking about what you want from the year ahead. It is a time to look forward and dream of how you want your life and business to look. It is a great time to decide to make this year different and this all begins with setting goals and getting clear on your vision.
This year as a family we decided to sit down with a large sheet of paper each, felt tips, glitter and glue and create our own vision boards. Now, for the children as they are young we decided to create a vision board for their life ahead - so looking at what their ambitions are, what they want to be, where they want to live and what they want to be like.
For us adults we only looked at the year ahead and mapped out our goals and vision based on six areas - family/friends, home, relationships, personal growth, hobbies and career. This then gave a basic structure to begin looking at what we wanted to achieve in each area this year. Now, you can do a vision board based on 5 year or 10 years ahead but I felt for this year I wanted to focus on the year ahead.
Why create a vision board? It gives you a clear direction of where you want to go. It allows you to visualise the goals you want to achieve and it provides a constant reminder of what your priorities are. The key is to put it in a place where you will see it every day and you can take a few minutes to visualise what is on there. It should inspire and motivate you to continue taking the required action to achieve your goals and it should help you maintain focus throughout the year.
I was told I was crazy for creating one - I think you are crazy if you don’t create one ;)

In this week’s podcast episode, I am talking about the subject of Surviving Christmas as a small business owner or entrepreneur.
It can be a stressful time for everyone at this time of year but as a business owner in the landscaping industry we are all preparing for the Christmas closure and well earned break.
In this episode I am sharing a handful of things you can do in your business to be more prepared and less stressed for Christmas.
It isn’t rocket science but what I am talking about is the importance of running the numbers, completing the cashflow and invoicing early in order to stand your business in good stead for the impending weeks of non-earning time. If you are a TLC member you can access the Business Topic and get your hands on the cashflow forecast template and knowing your numbers video. Not a TLC member click here to join.
It also means looking at your schedule for works booked in for next year, creating and scheduling your social media and any marketing campaigns, as well looking ahead to 2023. Again, if you are a TLC member access the Planning & Mindset Topic to get your mind in the game and plan your 2023 with ease.
This is the perfect time of year to start big picture planning and setting goals for your business and yourself for the year ahead. Looking ahead to how you will generate leads and make more sales in your landscaping or garden design business.
Finally, let yourself off the hook and go and enjoy some rest and relaxation.

In this week’s podcast episode, I am talking about the subject of Return On Investment (ROI) but not just for marketing, but in all areas of your business. It may not be the most glamorous subject but it is definitely one to keep your eye on at any time you are questioning things in your business.
I have been chatting with various members of the landscaper’s circle community and having conversations arounds marketing strategy, goal setting, lead generation and staff. Plus many are feeling the pinch at this time of the year when the weather is unforgiving and pretty much stops play plus we are heading into the Christmas closure period.
That is why I am highlighting the importance of ROI. The usual thing to assess for return on investment purposes is your marketing strategies but I am also asking you to apply this assessment to your staff! Yes it can be triggering but I am asking not to get emotionally attached to your decisions but instead to go with your gut.
There are a few other podcast episodes I refer to during this episode that you may want to listen to after this one.

ROI - look at all areas of your business and I challenge you in particular to assess your staff…

In this week’s podcast episode, I am reflecting on life and business because ‘tis the season after all! Reflection is a very under-utilised practice and we often tend to get so caught up in the daily business grind that we don’t reflect back.
I am urging you, in this month of December, to reflect on the wins and celebrations of the year as well as the mistakes made and the learnings too. It is a great time to dream about what you want from next year too and I’m not just talking about goal setting I want you to think about what will make you happier, what would you like to do more of and what could you do to make next year different from this one.
I also am all about starting now rather than in January! So many people wait until January and New Years resolutions to start on a new course or make changes to their life but I am bucking the trend and have started now! Maybe it’s because I’ve just turned 40 or it could be that I am better in a routine rather than trying to get back into a routine when completely blowing it off for December. How could you start something new in your life now rather than January?
There are so many wins in my life and garden design and landscaping business what are yours? Send me an email to share as I love to hear your wins too. Plus over in The Landscaper’s Circle I am all about supporting you so go check out the business roadmap at www.thelandscaperscircle.co.uk to see what offering may work for you and your business right now.
We are now just about ready to welcome in the next cohort of students for our From The Ground Up course - perfect if you are starting or have just started your own landscaping or garden design business. Find out more and join the waitlist here.
We are aiming to commence the next course in January 2023 so do get on the waitlist to have the chance to secure your seat now.

In this week’s podcast episode, I am discussing the highly relevant topic of Surviving & Thriving in your landscaping and garden design business. With all the fear around rising fuel costs and cost of living I wanted to try and bring it down a notch with 5 things you can do to not only survive but thrive in a crisis.
The 5 things are:

In this week’s podcast episode, I am discussing the recent events of the week and it really was a variety! Firstly, we visited Futurescape at the Excel, London where I met with Capability Charlotte and the Plastics Rebellion who asked some questions of various artificial grass manufacturers the answers were interesting.
As part of our #timeforturf campaign that started at the beginning of the year we encouraged you to share our report with clients and re-think installing artificial grass yourself and if you were in any doubt about the huge issues with artificial grass just watch the interviews here: https://youtu.be/cv1v55Bffj4
Another interesting revelation this week is the emergence of copycats! Yes that is right, I have discovered TLC wannabes out there recently. If I'm honest after getting over the anger of it I realised I must be doing something right! Plus this is not the first time that it has happened, twice people have used Aura Landscapes project images and touted them as their own. Easily solved with a call and/or email plus knowing that there is only one you!
The new Landscaper Magazine came out this week with my regular article published and this issue I decided to focus on reviewing your year and ending the year strong. This is important to learn what is going on in your garden design or landscaping business and it enables you to make decisions based on facts.
In order to review leads, marketing strategies, sales and conversion rates you really need to ensure you have a regularly edited and updated enquiry log. If you don’t have one…create one immediately! TLC members there is a template over in the topics section for you.

In this week’s podcast episode, ‘Talking Life-Scaping with Monique Allen’ we are discussing the concept of life-scaping over landscaping, being a woman in a male dominated industry and how us landscapers and garden designers can achieve everything we want to financially and in life.
I talk to Monique Allen founder of The Garden Continuum, author and fierce industry advocate. I really enjoyed this episode as found myself having a lot in common with Monique and absolutely loved her energy.
Monique started landscaping at 18 years old and over the last 37 years has created a hugely successful business, been involved with conservation and developed the Life-Scape Method TM. Of which then led to her book ‘Stop Landscaping Start Life-Scaping’
Monique’s story is really inspiring and her practices are unique, we even went a little spiritual during our conversation. Have a listen to this episode to find out one tip that she gives to landscapers in order to get beyond a six figure turnover.

In this week’s podcast episode, ‘Creating a Network for Business with Sam Lever & Richard Bickler’ we are discussing the brand new event happening The Cambridge Garden Network and why it is important to run and attend events like this.
I talk to Sam Lever of Grow Gardens Landscaping who came up with the idea of running an event (The Cambridge Garden Network) to get together garden designers, landscapers, suppliers and more in one place in his local area. The idea is to create a community of people that can connect and collaborate whilst hearing from some experts in the industry too (The APL, Perennial, Arbour Landscape Solutions and me!)
I also talk with Richard Bickler of Arbour Landscape Solutions who aims to provide the landscaping industry with a one stop shop for landscaping supplies. Industry specialist who care, I speak with Richard about why these events are important for the industry, how arbour can help landscapers and garden designers like you and more.
This is a really great chat that discusses how an event like this has come about and begs the question could you set one up in your area to help develop and grow your business?
