Some people like to receive gifts because it makes them feel good to be thought of or maybe it's because that's what makes them feel valued by others. That can be something heartfelt and sentimental or something grand and expensive. Jason and Karal have had their share of gift-giving gaffes leading to hurt feelings and misunderstandings. Whether receiving gifts is your primary love language or not, being thought of by your significant other, friends and family is a winner. Jason and Karal are starting this love language tour with Acts of Service. The phrase "actions speak louder than words" describes very well how some people feel that have Acts of Service as their primary way that they want to receive love. It's not always about just doing something for your partner that they asked. It's about being proactive and anticipating their needs so that they don't have to always ask the other person to do something that needs to be done. Something as simple as doing a grocery store run to save your partner the trip can be big to the other person. Up next week is another stop on this love language tour - enjoy the ride.

February 01, 2023 31. Five Love Languages: A Major Change to Our Relationship
Love languages are important for anyone no matter what your relationship status is. Love languages aren't about how you want to give love, but it's about how your partner wants to receive love. People can also have more than one, but everyone has a primary. Even if you're not in a relationship or coupled up, knowing yourself is key to being the best you can. Some of this can even apply to other familial relationships, friendships or even work.
For years Jason and Karal missed the mark by trying to show love to each other not in the way the other wanted to be loved (THEIR LOVE LANGUAGE), but in how they (Jason and Karal) wanted to be loved. Arguments, disagreements and hurt feelings was the result. After better understanding and accepting each other's love language, they were able to communicate the gaps better. Karal spent 7 years working in a healthy marriage and healthy relationship environment. In essence, it was a marriage counseling and marriage education program (although her job wouldn't allow staff to use the terms "counseling" and "therapy"). However, it wasn't until Karal humbled herself and honed in on all of the resources around her that she was able to make a change within herself and then share that with Jason.
