Guest Biography
Tara Winkler is the co-founder of Cambodian Children's Trust (CCT), which she established in 2007 with Pon Jedtha to help 14 children escape an abusive orphanage. Over the last 14 years, she has led CCT through a number of significant organisational changes, including the transition from orphanage to a family welfare model, called the Village Hive. Today, CCT is a grassroots, community-led organisation that is focused on shifting power to local communities to achieve sustainable, systemic change. Winkler testified at the Australian Parliamentary Inquiry into Modern Slavery to shine a light on the orphanage industry, fuelled by white saviourism. Tara is now focused on furthering a movement to decolonise international development.
