Mario the Magician or Mario the Maker is a most fascinating, inspirational creator. Although he has been “makin’ it” for a number of years, it wasn’t until I saw him perform at the 2018 MagiFest that I immediately became a fan. He has the “it” factor that endears him to an entire audience spanning age and audience size. He is just as engaging at a small birthday party as he is in an auditorium. And more than just a magician, he creates magic using electronics and encourages youth to get involved in science and math and learn to create their own magic.

He suggests that everyone (but youth in particular) attend Maker Faires (the worlds largest “show and tell” forum) to see what others are doing and to create things themselves. These Faires are held all over the world and somewhere near you. Other websites he suggests include tinkercat.com which allows children to design their own 3D designs. Thngerverse.com is like Google for creating 3D projects.

John Archer visited our shores in between dates on a comedy tour of the U.K. with Tim Vine. John performed and lectured at the Texas Association of Magicians and also stopped by my home the night before to enjoy a martini or two. While here, he regaled us with some impromptu playing of his ukulele. The next day before the T,A,O,M, conventinn began, we sat down for a wonderfully enlightening conversation about many things including him being the first to “fool” Penn & Teller on their show when it was broadcast in the U.K.

While attending a birthday party celebration for Fielding West in Las Vegas, Nevada, we spoke with several attendees, but recorded a chat with Fielding and Earl Chaney. Both have been featured in stand-alone podcasts, each talking about their lives plus stories of “old Las Vegas”. But we have not had these two Las Vegas legends together on the same microphone…until now. Each has their own story, but both have friends in common which leads one to tell another story when the other leaves off. This was a fun podcast where I didn’t have to ask questions but just listen to the history of Las Vegas as it unfolded before my ears. Enjoy!

Gene Anderson is a name that is synonymous with the Torn & Restored Newspaper. But his career is so much more than that and he has influenced many of the "legends" in our industry like Doug Henning, just to name one. While attending the 2018 MAGIC Live! convention, we were able to get together with some of the many talented performers who were in attendance. Bill Malone and Charlie and Sherry Frye have been on the list to record for a long time. Fortunately the stars aligned (quite literally) as Sherry was able to pull her husband Charlie and her "other husband" Bill together to all sit in the same room for a chat. With no agenda, this conversation got wacky and out of control fast. These are naturally funny people and we are glad that we could capture lightning in this week's bottle.

But they we settle down after a while and talk about the secrets to controlling your pre-show stress and how to deliver a "solid" show and having energy in your show to elicit standing ovations.
