It's News Tuesday! But first, Emma speaks with Jacob Sugarman, lifestyle editor at the Buenos Aires Herald, to discuss the recent results in the Argentinian presidential race, which is now heading into a runoff. First, Emma runs through updates on the growing death toll in Gaza, the release of Hamas’ hostages, Donald Trump’s legal and electoral woes, UAW labor action, the impeachment of Joe Biden, the first publicly funded religious charter school, and Bob Menendez’s complete lack of guilt, before parsing through recent statement from both State Department martyr Josh Paul and AOC on the US’ failure to hold Israel to account with the Leahy law. Jacob Sugarman then joins, parsing through the lukewarm good news coming out of Argentina, with the center-left’s Sergio Massa beating out far-right dark horse candidate Javier Milei and pushing the presidential election to a runoff, before stepping back to analyze what so particular about Milei’s brand of “anti-establishment” politics, anarcho-capitalism, and general bigotry, and why it has won him his base of young Argentinian men. After contextualizing Milei’s rise within the ongoing economic crisis facing Argentinians today, which has seen years of skyrocketing poverty, debt, and inflation, Sugarman walks Emma through the alternatives to Milei’s anarcho-capitalism, namely Sergio Massa, before wrapping up with the dangers of historical revisionism among the far-right and their junta connections. Emma also touches on the myth of a crimewave, the House GOP’s Speakership chaos, and dances on the grave of an enemy.
And in the Fun Half: Emma watches Fox & Friends go crazy for a ground invasion of Gaza, before parsing through the Times of Israel’s own assessment of such an operation, also talking with Ross from North Carolina on gameplan toward funding Ukraine, and watching Cenk Uygur the moral case for Palestinians on Piers Morgan. Timor from Ontario dives into the chaos in Canadian politics over Israel-Palestine divides, and the MR Crew watches speeches by Donald Trump on being Nelson Mandela, and Nelson Mandela on terrorism and Israel, plus, your calls and IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Ilan Pappe, professor of history at the University of Exeter and Director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies, to discuss the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel’s continuing bombardment of the people of Gaza, their expanding attack in the West Bank, global pro-Palestine action, the GOP’s speakership clown car, SAG-AFTRA’s strike, crime rates, and local news funding, before parsing through the hilarious task that is being a republican talking to media right now. Professor Pappe then joins, diving right into Israel’s response to the Hamas attacks on October 7th, including the media’s persistent revenge narrative arming the population for a compassionless siege on Gaza, the pervasive understanding by Israeli civilians that the Israeli army and government can’t and won’t protect them, and why – despite seeing the necessity – the Israeli public is not open to a discussion of alternatives to Israeli occupation. Stepping back, Professor Pappe then walks Sam and Emma through the genesis of the Zionist movement as an attempt to redefine Jewish identity as a nationality amid increasing persecution (and national-identity building) in 19th-century Europe, tackling backing of the project by European states and the US during the onset of the 20th Century, as they sought a clean expulsion of Jews from Europe, with an extra emphasis for the British on expanding their sphere of influence. After expanding on the Western-led colonial structure of the establishment of Israel – particularly in the ethnic cleansing of local populations – Ilan Pappe walks through the thriving cosmopolitan world of pre-Israel Palestine, one in which communities and religions coexisted, as a proper pretext for a discussion of the following eviction and cleansing of these local populations in the leadup to the Nakba in 1948, also touching on the use of Europe’s own crimes against Jewish people as a justification for the violence being imposed upon the Palestinians from 1948 on. Wrapping up, Sam, Emma, and Professor Pappe explore the obvious failings of an Israeli two-state solution, why a single multi-racial, multi-ethnic democracy with full rights for Palestinians is the only viable option, and how Israel and Palestine are reading the international responses to the occupation.
And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma parse through the devastating numbers on Israel’s leveling of Gaza, watch the US try to defend vetoing a ceasefire to the UN, and Ilhan Omar’s response to another callous questioning of her empathy for Palestinians. After a longer conversation on the failure of the Democratic establishment’s response to Israeli war crimes, Sam and Emma spend a little time basking in the shame and incompetence of the House GOP, plus, your IMs!

It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma are joined by Heather Digby Parton, contributing writer at Salon.com and proprietor of the blog Hullabaloo, to round up the week in news. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Gaza, respectively, Jim Jordan’s humiliation streak, Israel’s offensives and their rising death tolls, various US agencies, and Apple’s problem with Jon Stewart, before diving into the growing discontent with Israel among Arab countries in the Middle East. Digby then joins as she walks through her reflections on the last week in global politics, tackling the failure of Biden’s immediate response to Israel’s offensive, the potential of a greater regional conflict, and the shortcomings of the Ukraine comparison. Next, Digby, Sam, and Emma tackle the changing opinion on Israel – particularly among younger generations – as well as the right’s unsurprising response to the conflict (virulent Islamophobia) before shifting to the hilarity that is the state of the GOP, including the potential “solutions” to their speakership debacle, intra-party violence, and wrapping up with an assessment of where Trump stands in his various legal battles.
And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Donald Trump attempt to blame someone else for Iran’s nuclear program, Greg from Philly dives into the political shitshow that is British media, Chadwick from Detroit has a little conspiracy to share, and Blake from Detroit discusses freedom of speech for politicians. They also tackle the insane censorship and threatening of pro-Palestine voices, Israel’s complete failure in making the world safer for Jews, and a few updates on the Republican’s speakership debacle, plus, your calls and IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
It's another EmMajority Report Thursday! Emma speaks with Spencer Headworth, associate professor of sociology at Purdue University, to discuss his recent book Rules of the Road: The Automobile and the Transformation of American Criminal Justice. First, Emma runs through updates on the arrest of 500 peaceful anti-zionist protesters in DC at a Jewish Voices for Peace rally, the growing death and devastation out of Gaza, US Aid to war, Jim Jordan’s speakership, Trump’s legal battles, and the hot labor market, before parsing through the moving speeches by Rashida Tlaib and Naomi Klein at the JVP rally. Spencer Headworth then joins as he dives right into the evolution of the automobile and its particular impact on policing in the US. First, Headworth walks through the general bloody invention of the car (causing more American deaths over WWI than the war did), and the capitulation of the US government to the whims of corporations, initiating a slow but sure reassignment of the roads from a public place – for play, community, and commerce – to one exclusively for automobiles, with the criminalization of pedestrian use of the vast majority of streets under jaywalking. Expanding on this, Headworth dives into the impact of the automobile revolution on the implementation of the 4th Amendment, with prohibition law enforcement ramping up the use of “probable cause” to stop and search an automobile and its driver, particularly as traffic stops became the primary interaction between citizens and the state. Moving to the second half of the 20th Century, Emma and Spencer explore the role of both suburbanization – and the parallel decimation of urban areas – and in reinventing American segregation, and interstate highways in pushing the federalization of the very same crimes that were punishing Black and brown Americans at increasingly horrifying numbers, before tackling how all of these elements, aided by the wars on drugs and poverty, pushed racial biases to the center of policing strategy. Wrapping up, they look at the devastating impact of policing’s evolution alongside the automobile, and how it serves to reinforce the US police state. Emma concludes the free half by watching Fox & Friends begin to eat the moderate Republicans alive for refusing to endorse Jim Jordan’s speakership.
And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they discuss the arrival of spooky season, before parsing through the severe disinformation around the recent bombing of a Gazan hospital, Israel’s history of bombing medical infrastructure and actively lying about war crimes, and the already-debunked arguments Israel attempted to use to blame Gaza for its own devastation. Barnaby Raine gets to the core of Israel’s apartheid regime (colonizer logic), and Ron DeSantis takes on Trump’s response to Hamas’ terror attack. Raz from Santa Barbara discusses unlearning the patriarchy, which Dan from California expands on, and Spocko explores death threats and free speech, plus, your calls and IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
It's News Day Tuesday! But first, in a prerecorded conversation, Sam and Emma speak with Trita Parsi, executive vice president at the Quincy Institute, to discuss his recent piece on the escalating situation in Israel and Gaza entitled "Biden refuses to talk 'ceasefire' though it could prevent a regional war." First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Biden’s visit to Israel, calls from the House for a ceasefire, Jim Jordan’s upcoming speakership vote (and Democrats’ response), the UAW, SCOTUS, and Biden’s deal with Venezuela, before parsing through Ron DeSantis bringing his classic bigotry to the Israel-Gaza conflict as he tries to resuscitate his campaign. Trita Parsi then joins, outlining the peripheral players in the Israel-Gaza conflict, first looking to Hezbollah’s ongoing skirmishes with Israel to the north, as well as Iran’s relationship with Hezbollah, and the existing tensions between these players and Hamas, before walking through developments on the border between Gaza and Egypt, and the future of the 1.1 million inhabitants of northern Gaza. After tackling the Biden Administration’s and State Departments’ developing responses to the conflict, beginning with their full-throated support for military action in Gaza – to the point of banning the use of terms like “ceasefire” and “de-escalation” from any public statements – Sam, Emma, and Parsi explore Biden’s stance as largely tied to domestic opinion, rather than foreign policy, and what that means for pushing a ceasefire. Wrapping up, Trita discusses growing tensions in the West Bank amid the genocide of Gazans, and Sam and Emma cover another failed GOP speakership vote, live!
And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma parse through the results from Jim Jordan’s Speakership attempt, explore the parallels and shortcomings of a Gaza-Iraq comparison, and talk with Haley from Montana about the politics of polling. The MR Crew also listens to the newest earsore in right-wing music, Matt Walsh discusses colonization and the wonders it did for human dignity, and Cucker from Chicago dives into labor ongoings in the retail, grocery, and pharmaceutical world. Kevin McCarthy blames Democrats for the GOP’s dysfunction, plus, your calls and IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Omar Shakir, Israel and Palestine Director at Human Rights Watch, to discuss the ongoing situation on the ground in the Gaza Strip. First Sam and Emma run through updates on stalled aid to Gaza, Israel’s ongoing assault, the West’s unconditional support for Israel, the GOP’s ongoing Speakership fight, fascist ongoings in the US, and surprising election results in Louisiana and Poland, before David Dayen helps them parse through the unsurprising absurdity of the House GOP’s speakership fight coming down to ultimatums from Fox News hosts. Omar Shakir then joins as he jumps right into the history of the Gaza Strip, from the beginning of its occupation by Israel in 1967, through the establishment of their full blockade on people, goods, and aid in the wake of their military withdrawal in 2005, which launched the current era of strict apartheid and de facto Hamas rule. After briefly touching on the international politics around the 2007 blockade and election of Hamas in Gaza, Shakir explores how the Israeli government has supported and maintained Hamas’ rule as a part of their “policy of separation” between Gaza and the West Bank, and a central tool against the establishment of a Palestinian state. Wrapping up, Omar explores the obvious parallels between the current assault on Palestinians in Gaza and the 1948 Nakba that began the occupation, the recent discovery of Israel’s use of white phosphorus, and what a push for a ceasefire and an end to apartheid could look like.
And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma continue to chat with David as they watch Marc Lamont Hill refuse to let Israel’s euphemisms for war crimes slide, Lindsay Graham’s attempt to use Israel to elect Jim Jordan, and Fox News’ attempt to argue that the true war crimes were making it look like Israel was committing war crimes in the first place. The GOP continues to struggle over the speakership as Jim Jordan rises to the top of the cr*ap heap, Washington Brain continues to infect DC as right-wing alienation eviscerates the suburbs, and a commenter has an interesting theory on aid to Israel, plus, your IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
It's Casual Friday! Emma is joined by Noah Kulwin, co-host of the Blowback podcast, to round up a chaotic week in news. First, Emma runs through updates on Israel’s impossible order to Gazans, rising death numbers, and continuing war crimes, as well as the US reneging on Iran, Bob Menendez’s corruption, labor action, climate change, and more, before parsing through the explicitly genocidal rhetoric coming from the top of Israeli and US politics. Noah Kulwin then parses through Israel’s ongoing siege of Gaza, including an impossible evacuation order, the complete lack of symmetry in the Israel-Palestine relationship, and the total control of Israel’s apartheid system. After touching on Israel’s knowledge of an impending attack, Noah and Emma discuss the severe (and unsurprising) failure of Israel’s attempt to beat Palestine into submission, before wrapping up with the dramatic double standards for pro-Palestine and pro-Israel stances in the media. Emma concludes the free half with a quick update on the rise and fall of the theoretical nomination of Steve Scalise to House Speakership, and the increasing bad blood within the GOP.
And in the Fun Half: Emma watches British journalist Owen Jones attempt to fend off a British MP’s relentless apartheid apologia, looks back on Noam Chomsky’s statements on the asymmetry of Israel-Palestine relations, and talks with Ulysses from Cincinnati about a new outsider candidate in the 2024 election. El from Toronto explores the role of conscription in Israel’s project of genocide, Karine Jean-Pierre calls anti-genocide rhetoric “repugnant” on behalf of Joe Biden, and Nathan from the South East discusses his perspective on the troubled teen industry. Matt Walsh finally has some thoughts on queer childhood, and Mike from Brooklyn discusses solidarity action with Palestine, plus, your calls and IMs!

Sam is coming to us LIVE for Day 2 of the Mass Torts Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada! First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel’s siege on Gaza, Blinken’s unconditional support for the IDF, Steve Scalise’s speakership limbo, expanding UAW action, stalling SAG-AFTRA negotiations, and general tidbits on US democracy, before exploring the ongoing disaster in Gaza as we stand on the precipice of an even larger crime against humanity, with Israel punishing some 2 million Gazans, half of whom are children, for the crimes of some 45k Hamas fighters. Sam then sits down with various lawyers from the law firm Levin Papantonio Rafferty as they parse through their ongoing mass tort cases against some of the world’s biggest corporations to hold them to account for their active lies and omissions. First, Caleb Cunningham joins to explore his work attempting to hold the “troubled teen” industry to account, walking through the unregulated rise of these carceral facilities for minors, and the pervasive trauma that they have left on the children and families they are supposedly helping. After touching on the tactics the industry uses to get around bad publicity or accountability, they wrap up with a conversation on the differences between class actions and other forms of mass tort. Troy Rafferty then joins to explore the devastating impact of Big Pharma’s price gouging of life-saving insulin medication, tackling the prevalence of diabetes and the central role insulin plays in mitigating its deadly impacts, and the role both manufacturers and pharmaceutical middle-men (called Pharmacy Benefit Managers) play in exponentially pushing up the prices on irreplaceable drugs, before they wrap up with a conversation on the failure of the US government to properly hold these bad actors accountable, and what a single-payer system could do to prevent this from ever happening again. Lastly, Peter Mougey discusses his ongoing battle against opioid manufacturers and distributors for their role in actively perpetuating the opioid crisis in the US, and how they were able to track the malpractice on the part of these industries in refusing to flag clear regional abuse of their drugs. Sam and Emma also discuss the absurd coverage of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, with Fox & Friends painting Hamas’ violence as Palestinians being ungrateful, before they step back to walk through Hamas’ long-time history as a wing of Israel’s war against a Palestinian state, making parallels with the US’ midwifing of the Taliban. Wrapping up, Sam and Emma watch the “radical right” of the GOP immediately shut down any potential hope of a Scalise speakership, and Tim Pool points to female autonomy as the end of feminism.

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
Sam is coming to us LIVE from the Mass Torts Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada! First, he and Emma run through updates on Israel’s assault on Gaza in the wake of Hamas’ terror attacks, the House GOP’s behind-closed-doors speakership battle, the Fed’s SILENCING of PATRIOT George Santos, and electoral battles in Ohio and North Carolina, before parsing through Biden’s recent statements on the Israel-Gaza conflict, and the speakership battle between Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise. Then, Sam is joined by various tort lawyers from the law firm of Levin Papantonio Rafferty to discuss their ongoing cases taking on some of the most heinous (alleged) lies and omissions perpetrated by corporations. First, Chris Tisi walks through the long-ongoing case against Johnson and Johnson for the myriad health defects that came from the talc in their Baby Powder formula – an issue of which J&J was well aware and actively sought to keep secret. After exploring the timeline of the case against J&J, Tisi dives into the company’s manipulation of US bankruptcy law to completely avoid paying the settlement of the case via the “Texas Two-Step,” and how he’s pushing to hold them accountable (once again). Sara Pappantonio then explores her case against the preterm-infant formulas of various companies, including Abbott Labs and Johnson and Johnson, for knowingly employing the use of cow’s milk despite preterm infants’ inability to digest it, resulting in devastating cases of necrotizing enterocolitis. Chris Paulos, next, dives into the prevalence of the active money laundering schemes run by massive banks for illegal operations – from terrorist organizations to gangs – and the cat-and-mouse catch-up game that has developed with lawyers and regulators chasing after these illegal operations as the banks attempt to find newer loopholes. Last, Cameron Stephenson tackles his developing case on Ozempic’s unnamed off-label side-effects that have come to light since the drug took off in popularity, including stomach paralysis and gastroparesis of various permanence, and what the early stages of these cases look like. Sam and Emma also touch on Nancy Mace’s quintessential theatre-kid routine on The House Floor, RFK’s evolution into libertarianism (and Trump’s fear of that), responses to Steve Scalise’s likely speakership nomination, and RFK’s Israeli propaganda.
