It's News Day Tuesday! Emma speaks with Jeff Schuhrke, assistant professor in labor studies at SUNY Empire State University, to discuss his recent piece at In These Times entitled "“This Fight Is Global”: Workers Around the World Are Standing With Striking U.S. Autoworkers." Then, she's joined by blogger Ettingermentum to discuss his piece entitled "The Modern Electoral History of Transphobia." First, Emma runs through updates on Israel’s devastating siege on Gaza, including the rising death tolls on both sides, the international response to the conflict, international labor action, Kevin McCarthy’s obsession with stature, Bob Menendez’s desire to run for reelection, Trump’s fraud trial, and Oklahoma’s publicly-funded religious charter, before parsing through the Israeli government’s disturbing response to Hamas’ attacks this weekend, and the large role they played in Hamas’ rise. Professor Jeff Schuhrke then dives right into the massive size of this labor movement, with the US recently seeing hundreds of thousands of laborers on strike in recent weeks, driven in large part by the United Auto Workers’ rolling strikes against the big three auto-makers. Expanding on this latter point, Professor Schuhrke explores the international solidarity being shown to the UAW amid threats to export their jobs abroad for cheaper labor, with both independent Mexican unions and Lula da Silva’s Brazilian government extending support, before he and Emma wrap up with an assessment of the incredible international labor moment, and the future of international labor solidarity. Ettingermentum (or, Josh) then joins as he walks Emma through the evolution of the GOP’s mass transphobia campaign in the face of consistent electoral blowback. Josh first touches on the North Carolina Bathroom Law in 2013 – where the GOP attempted to use its Governorship and Super Majority in the state as a testing ground for their fascist legislation – and the resulting democratic governorship of Roy Cooper that continues to this day, before walking through the second wave of attempts around the 2016 election of Donald Trump, particularly those in Virginia and New Jersey, which failed so severely they saw Donald Trump pivot to a faux-Pro-LGBT stance for the 2020 race. Wrapping up, Ettingermentum and Emma explore the role of the Democratic Party and national media in propping up the legitimacy of this electoral strategy, their important shift towards highlighting the most extreme platforms of the GOP, and why voters won’t go for outright transphobic agendas.
And in the Fun Half: Emma and the MR Crew reflect on coverage of the Israel-Gaza war (including their own) with some help from Dave from Jamaica, Jimmy Dore and Tim Pool tiptoe around any support for Palestine, and Marco Rubio makes an outright call for genocide. Gabe from Philly explores Jewish liberation outside of Zionism, Kevin McCarthy brings the Freedom caucus into his response to the Israel-Gaza conflict, and Michael Knowles continues to exemplify the right-wing attack on education. Miguel S. calls in to explore the direct connections between poverty and crime, plus, your calls and IMs!Check out Jeff's piece here: https://inthesetimes.com/article/uaw-strike-international-solidarity-mexico-brazil-union-labor

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
Happy Monday! Sam is off today, but in honor of Indigenous People's Day he spoke with Peter D'Errico, professor emeritus of legal studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, about his recent book Federal Anti-Indian Law: The Legal Entrapment of Indigenous Peoples. But first, Emma spoke with Orly Noy, editor at Local Call and chair of B'Tselem's executive board, to discuss the recent fighting between Palestine and Israel. Emma also walked through on the UAW’s labor action, Donald Trump’s assessment of RFK, a devastating earthquake in Afghanistan, and Gavin Newsom’s regressive veto campaign, before stepping back to look at the role of Israel’s ongoing apartheid state and Bibi Netanyahu’s genocidal government in pushing this conflict to its breaking point. Orly joins the show from Jerusalem, as she updates Emma on the state of war within Israel and Palestine, even as far from the primary conflict as Jerusalem is. Next, Noy parses through Bibi Netanyahu’s response as a perfect encapsulation of his political agenda, completely committing his power to punishing Gaza and Palestine, and shoring up his own political station. Expanding on this, Noy walks through the failure of the Israeli government to even provide safety for Israelis, dedicating their forces to a genocidal response and leaving civilian safety to civilian organizers, before she and Emma step back and assess the evolution of Netanyahu’s approach (or lack thereof) to Palestine, pulling every maneuver to bypass them politically, while maintaining a strict and severe military occupation. Wrapping up, Noy assesses Hamas’ outcast role in Palestinian politics and military resistance, and why ground invasion would be an incredibly dangerous development for the already criminally fragile open-air prison that is Gaza. Professor D’Errico then walks through the evolution of the doctrines of settler colonialism in what is now the United States, with the doctrine of Christian discovery that launched the colonial era from Spain and England setting the stage for the US’ own domestic justification for the “manifest destiny” agenda. Expanding on this, D’Errico and Sam explore the central cases in the establishment of Chief Justice John Marshall’s ‘Marshall Doctrine’ in Indian Law, which actively committed to the perspective of Christian dominion and discovery, and asserted the native peoples as a sub-human class unable to look after their land. Next, they look to the post-Marshall evolution of the doctrine, with the Court carrying its vision forward while slowly obscuring its origins, seeing it affirmatively cited even by supposedly progressive justices like RBH, without reference to Christianity. After expanding on the Marshall Doctrine’s secondary purpose as a reinforcement of federal domination over the states, D’Errico wraps up by walking through the contemporary battles over the Marshall Doctrine, the push for full assimilation of Native territories, and the need to bring the origins of the doctrine back into full public view.
And in the Fun Half: Emma and Matt watch Jordan Peterson’s homophobia get easily sliced by Jim Jeffries, Lucy from Tallahassee dives into her perspective on DeSantis’ culture war, and Mustafa Barghouti makes an impactful appearance on CNN in the wake of Hamas’ attacks this weekend. Nancy Mace has no response to her support for alleged perpetrators and SA supporters Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz, Jacob from Alabama discusses the Marriage Penalty on social benefits, the UK’s right-wing spiral continues, and Alfred from Texas puts forward a counterfactual to assuage European culpability on Indigenous Peoples Day, plus, your calls and IMs!

It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma speak with Alex Pareene, Contributing Editor at the New Republic and co-host of the Politics of Everything podcast, to round up the week in news. Then, they're joined by David Feldman of The David Feldman Show!
It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma speak with Alex Pareene, Contributing Editor at the New Republic and co-host of the Politics of Everything podcast, to round up the week in news. Then, they're joined by David Feldman of The David Feldman Show! First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the job market, Biden’s concerning anti-immigration push, environmental collapse, the GOP Speakership race, Right-Wing legal woes, another killer cop not getting charged, and Cornel West’s candidacy, before parsing a little deeper through Biden’s attempt to shirk responsibility for his regressive immigration policy. Alex Pareene then joins, as they tackle the unsurprising – yet nonetheless disappointing – developments around Dianne Feinstein’s seat, also diving into the absolute chaos within the GOP, from the Speakership battle and the government shutdown to its absolute absence of an agenda. After briefly expanding on a hilarious predicament the House GOP has put themselves in, Alex, Sam, and Emma wrap up with an analysis of various left-wing presidential candidacies. David Feldman then joins to educate Sam and Emma on film history, the Tiki Torch agenda, and the real takeaways from Shelby County vs. Holder.
And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Hillary get right back into her prime (giving the right-wing ample propaganda), expand on the self-immolation of the House GOP (with help from Nancy Mace), and watch Greg Gutfeld rally against democracy. The MR Crew expands on the conversation around crime and inflation in the US, Lara Trump debuts her new single, and Henry Kissinger turns 100, plus, your calls and IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
It's an EmMajority Report Thursday! She speaks with journalist Vincent Bevins about his recent book If We Burn:
The Mass Protest Decade and the Missing Revolution. Then, she's joined by Brian Concannon, human rights lawyer and executive director of the Institute for Justice & Democracy (IJDH) in Haiti, to discuss the UN's recent authorization of Kenyan forces into Haiti in an attempt to stabilize the country.
First, Emma runs through updates on the House GOP’s Speakership Fight 2.0, Biden border hawkery, the arrest of Code Pink activists, COVID vaccines, the Menendez fraud, various fraudulent GOP campaigns, Biden’s student debt relief, and the Alabama gerrymandering case, before parsing through the incredible launch of a 75k strong Kaiser Permanente healthcare workers’ strike. Vincent Bevins then joins, diving right into his work exploring the 2010s through the lens of mass protest and their impact, bringing to light the shocking fact that many of the most notorious protests of the era lead to the very opposite of their original goals. Next, looking to his key examples, Bevins walks Emma through the mass protests that exploded in Brazil in June 2013, looking at the role of mass and social media in highly publicizing the protests and the state’s violent response, and expanding the protests well beyond their original aims as various political groups took advantage of the moment, pushing aside the social democratic goals of original organizers in favor of broad anti-corruption, anti-regime ideas, all of which laid the path to the corrupt anti-corruption case that jailed Lula da Silva and landed Bolsonairo in the presidency. Expanding on this, Vincent Bevins parses through the failure of the organizing strategy of the new left – following decades of the crippling social and organizing structures under neoliberalism and atomization – and why the decentralization presented by largely media-driven mobilization can often see moments hijacked by more centralized and politically powerful groups, before looking more carefully at the evolution of the internet over the last two decades, and how the ideas of the social good of the internet and the neoliberal "end of history" were actively challenged as mainstream ideas. Wrapping up, Vincent and Emma explore what the successful protests of the era looked like, and the importance of a movement that speaks for itself – lest someone else speak for them. Brian Concannon then tackles the recently approved, UN-backed, Kenyan-run mission to police the people of Haiti, walking through the birth of the mission in the U.S. State Department and their intense desire to not be seen killing Black Haitians in poor neighborhoods, resulting in their outsourcing of the project to the Kenyan military. Next, Concannon parses through the interests behind the State Department’s project to maintain the unelected regime of Ariel Henry – a project they present as pro-democracy – and their hope to avoid conflict before the 2024 election, before they wrap up with an assessment of the material impact of Biden’s anti-immigration presidency.
And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Matt Binder as they watch Senator Markwayne Mullin jump on the opportunity to trash Matt Gaetz, Simmer from New York asks about the future of WGA-SAG solidarity, and Cullin from Baltimore shouts about why corporate price gouging didn’t cause inflation because: “No.” They also watch Andrew Yang attempt to get back into the conversation, the UnHerd podcast gets schooled over borders, and Cassie from NoLa explores the absurdity of the right’s culture war. Jamelle from Cleveland discusses hip hop history and anti-capitalism, plus, your calls and IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
It's Hump Day! Sam and Emma speak with Greg Iwinski member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) negotiating committee, to discuss the agreement struck between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to end their strike. Then, they're joined by Moe Tkacik, investigations editor at the The American Prospect, to discuss her recent piece on the complaint levied against Amazon by the Federal Trade Commission. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on labor action among healthcare workers and the UAW, Federal challenges to monopoly, Trump’s gag order, and Septembers record heat numbers, before parsing through the ousting of Kevin McCarthy, and his total shock in reaping what he sowed during his confirmation. Greg Iwinski then joins, first reflecting on the massive progress made by the WGA since his last MR appearance, and the ongoing process of ratifying their deal with studios – before briefly stepping back to analyze the role of the growing national labor movement and mass contraction of the streaming model in creating this moment. After briefly touching on the future of the industry model, Iwinski walks Sam and Emma through the big wins from the WGA deal, including various pay protections, job protections, and a peek behind the curtain of streaming data. Next, Moe Tkacik tackles the FTC’s ongoing anti-trust suit against Amazon, exploring the elements of monopoly that this case is targeting, and Amazon’s massive ability to leverage third-party sellers and shippers into horrendous deals – with severe algorithmic consequences if they don’t agree. After parsing through the details of the allegations (and what remains foggy), Tkacik, Sam, and Emma look to the growing anti-trust movement in both law and politics, and why anti-trust messaging is so necessary to combat the media manipulation of massive monopolies. They wrap up the interview with an analysis of the future of the anti-trust movement, and what it will take to fight against generations of brainwashing by the Chicago School of economics.
And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma dive into the beautiful culmination of the absolute sh*t show hosted by the House GOP, tackling responses from both the Gaetz and McCarthy coalitions, and exploring where the Right-Wing media falls along these lines. Hannity floats a Trump-Speakership and is shut down by hopeful Jim Jordan, and Grant Stinchfield shifts to another off-brand Fox station to rant about Dianne Feinstein’s passing, plus, your IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
It's News Day Tuesday! Sam & Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. First, they run through updates on Kevin McCarthy’s job, legal news around Trump, the CFPB, and Menendez, respectively, SAG-AFTRA negotiations, drug price negotiations, and the eviction crisis facing US children. Next, they dive a little deeper into Trump’s response to his developing fraud case in New York, coming out of the gates targeting the “corrupt” judge and AG, despite the case NOT being a jury trial, before they shift to Matt Gaetz throwing away his future to embarrass Kevin McCarthy (to everyone’s benefit), and the strategic response from Democrats to let them fight. Then, they parse through Ben Collins’ recent reporting connecting Elon Musk’s Twitter agenda to a far-right, anti-Semitic, transphobic, and anti-vax article from a former Trump speechwriter that put forward Musk’s crippling of the public square as a central tool to the future far-right successes.
And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Stephen Crowder attempt to clamor back into the public consciousness through gutter-level racism, talk with Ark from New Jersey on trusting military aid to Ukraine (and elsewhere), and the Right Side Broadcasting hosts have some… interesting comments on liberal women. George calls in from the SAG-AFTRA strike, Aaron from Indianapolis discusses the attack on public education, and Astrid from New Brunswick explores the impact of parents’ rights protests. Lane from Nashfield takes on the various types of cooperatives, and the MR Crew covers the live vote on McCarthy's future, plus, your calls and IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Ian Millhiser, senior correspondent at Vox, to discuss the upcoming Supreme Court term. Then, they're joined by litigator Mark Bankston who has a special announcement! First, Sam and Emma run through updates on our 45-day reprieve from a government shutdown, the ongoing chaos among the House GOP despite that, Gov. Newsome’s disappointing unilateral action, Donald Trump’s fraud case, and labor action nationwide, before parsing through commentary on the House GOP’s absurd power struggle. Ian Millhiser then joins, diving right into this Supreme Court term’s primary challenges to the administrative state – namely Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo – exploring the lasting governance of the Chevron Doctrine’s deference to government agencies, and the sudden emergence of the anti-democratic “Major Questions Doctrine” that the Court has been using to undermine any “major” decisions by government agencies (including student debt reform). After parsing through the evolution of these two doctrines (and the jurisprudence backing them up) and how Loper might see SCOTUS move onto the “Micromanaging Questions Doctrine,” Millhiser walks Sam and Emma through the radicalization of the US’ 5th Circuit over the Donald Trump administration, exploring how the GOP was able to blockade Obama’s appointments and confirm Trump’s en-masse. Wrapping up, Ian, Sam, and Emma tackle the far-right decisions coming out of the 5th Circuit, and what (if anything) the Supreme Court will do to keep their underlings in line. After Sam and Emma quickly parse through Jamaal Bowman’s ongoing Congressional debacle, they’re joined by Mark Bankston to discuss his representation of Ben Brody in a defamation case against Elon Musk, parsing through the issue at hand, what libel cases entail, and the vast damages that can come from the abuse of one’s public station.
And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma tackle the madness surrounding the still-impending government shutdown, dive a little deeper into the unsurprisingly racist coverage of Jamaal Bowman… pulling a fire alarm, and assess Biden’s recent statement on the Civil Rights Act. Next, they dive deep into Gavin Newsom’s astounding decision to name Laphonza Butler – a fundraiser who’s never held public office – to Dianne Feinstein’s Senate Seat over the over-deserving Barbara Lee, before Owen from LA helps parse through Butler’s past, Dan from CA provides some good ol’ unproductive libertarian debate, and Hannah from San Diego dives into the absurdity of the rental market as a military-civilian.

It's Casual Friday! Sam speaks with Ryan Grim, DC Bureau Chief at The Intercept, to round up the week in news. First, Sam runs through updates on the death of Dianne Feinstein, the UAW’s broadening strike, a win for fast food workers in CA, the House GOP’s various sh*t shows, and another Tesla lawsuit over discrimination, also parsing a little deeper through the Biden impeachment inquiry. Ryan Grim joins, as he and Sam jump right into assessing the future of Dianne Feinstein’s seat in the Senate and on the judiciary committee, before touching on the various ongoing labor fights, and the poor coverage that they get from mainstream media. After reflecting on Biden’s debut on the picket line, Ryan and Sam parse through two more of yesterday’s GOP disasters, with the supposed primary debate occurring without Donald Trump, and the flailing impeachment inquiry. Sam wraps up the free half with some of the young progressives’ best moments during yesterday’s Biden impeachment hearings.
And in the Fun Half: Sam talks with Bro Flamingo about labor retaliation, Rep. Brandon Williams gets publicly educated over the government shutdown, and both Elon Musk and Linda Yaccarino struggle to perform on the main stage. Tucker bonds with his old idol Bill O’Reilly, Patrick from Maine discusses his state’s power plans, and Andy from Atlanta rants about Foxconn. Sam from the future calls in with a warning, and Nick from the NRLCA gives his perspective on the union’s decertification process, plus, your calls and IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
It's a JAM PACKED EmMajority Report Thursday! She speaks with Mark Beissinger, politics professor at Princeton University, to discuss his recent book The Revolutionary City: Urbanization and the Global Transformation of Rebellion. Then, she speaks with reporter Emily Tamkin to discuss her recent piece in in The New Republic entitled "Why the GOP Fell in Love with Hungary." And then, Jamie Peck is back to talk about the Block Cop City efforts! First, Emma runs through updates on last night’s GOP Debate, the simultaneous Trump anti-Union event, McCarthy bringing an end to any hope for avoiding a government shutdown, labor action with the UAW, SAG-AFTRA, and Vegas hospitality workers, the Senate dress code, Bob Menendez’s not-guilty plea, and Gavin Newsome’s reproductive care training policy. Professor Mark Bessinger then dives right into his project on the urbanization of revolution, first walking through his definition of revolution, and why the evolution of revolution saw most of its early progress outside of urban centers in the 18th and 19th Centuries, before the massive urbanization of the 20th Century shifted the power of numbers in cities from the state to the people. Professor Bessinger then parses through the moments before and around the end of the Cold War that saw an influx of urban revolutionary tactics that emphasized the use of open space and capitalized on developments in communication and media to spur the rapid mobilization of a broad negative coalition. After briefly touching on the vast difference between “coups,” “protests,” and “revolutions,” Bessinger and Emma wrap up by assessing the future of revolution. Emily Tamkin joins, first discussing who Viktor Orbán is, and why his great replacement theory with added antisemitism so unsurprisingly speaks to the GOP, before walking through how this allowed him to put his Hungarian regime on the map for right-wing dictators, despite its relatively small political role. Tamkin and Emma expand on the parallels and differences between the ideologies of the GOP and Orbán, exploring why they prefer to present themselves as perfectly aligned, before they wrap up with an assessment of the strong connection between natalism, the far-right, and repressive societies. Finally, Jamie Peck tackles the abomination that is Cop City, its myriad issues from social, political, and environmental lenses, and the overwhelming rejection of the project by Atlantans. Next, Jamie and Emma take on the absurdity of Atlanta’s RICO charges against Cop City protestors, before looking forward to the next month and a half of Block Cop City organizing, and the strategies behind planned action this Veteran’s Day.
And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they watch AOC eviscerate a Conservative NY Democrat, the right-wing continues to embarrass itself over the Hunter Biden investigation, and the MR Team reflects on the GOP debates. The Petersons announce their version of the same right-wing pseudo-university grift we’ve seen countless times, and Cardi B reflects on the legacy of FDR, plus, your calls and IMs!

The Majority Report with Sam Seder - https://majorityreportradio.com/
It's Hump Day! Sam speaks with Jarod Facundo, writing fellow at The American Prospect, to discuss his recent piece entitled "Rural Letter Carriers Push for Union Decertification." Then, he's joined by Dr. Sara Nur Yildiz, professor in history at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, to discuss the developing situation in the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. First, Sam runs through updates on a brand new Donald Trump fraud charge, labor action with the UAW and WGA, the FTC suit against Amazon, net neutrality, the Senate’s continuing resolution, and GOP fascism, before parsing through the absurd news coverage making parallels between Joe Biden visiting the UAW picket line and Donald Trump visiting a NON-union manufacturer. Jarod Facundo then joins, diving right into the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association’s ongoing project to decertify their own union in the face of union collusion and malpractice with Louie DeJoy’s postal service. Facundo briefly outlines the structure of unions in the letter carrier world, before walking through NRLCA’s myriad failures in recent years, resulting in cuts to hours, overtime, and general labor costs with the implementation of the RRECS system – all of which were underexaggerated to union members. Next, Jacob and Sam explore the much broader infrastructure of US unions, with most functioning under the Teamsters, AFL-CIO, and SEIU, as they assess why current NRLCA members want to reorganize under the Teamsters, why the Teamsters are hesitant to outwardly organize with them, and why that conflict is putting such a delay on NRLCA members’ decertification project. Professor Sara Nur-Yildiz then walks Sam through the historical and geographical context for the ongoing cultural genocide of Armenians in the Nagorno-Karabakh region by Azerbaijan, tackling the ethnic history of the region, and the slow development of nationalism within the respective countries over the pre-soviet and soviet periods. Expanding on this, Professor Nur-Yildiz walks through the explosion of violence in the latter half of the 1900s, with a mass pogrom of Azeris, and the eventual Russian-brokered ceasefire that cemented the Armenian victory in the region. Next, Nur-Yildiz looks to the recent military action, with the Four-Day War in 2020 seeing the billionaire-backed Azerbaijan regime of Ilham Aliyev reclaim control of the disputed territory, and implement a blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, a region of hundreds of thousands, forcing a mass exodus of Armenia refugees facing rampant death and starvation. Wrapping up, Professor Sara Nur-Yildiz brings Sam through the major factors in Azerbaijan’s invasion and cultural genocide – mainly the business interests of the billionaire capitalists – and why the Oligarch PR complex might be the only thing preventing a full-throated genocide.
And in the Fun Half: Sam discusses developments in Rumble’s viewership numbers, Tim Pool sees the beginning of the end as Chicago begins tackling food security, and the MR Team walks through the myriad success stories of state-run grocery stores. Tommy Tuberville votes against the woke military, and Jesse Watters gets embarrassed across various Fox programs, plus, your calls and IMs!
