Episode 23 - Joe Evenson on Deconstructing Masculinity.

A native of Garretson, SD, Evenson was a four-year letter winner and two-year starting linebacker for Augustana from 1998 to 2001. He was an All-North Central Conference honorable mention selection both his junior and senior seasons.

When Joe was coaching football he attended a lecture by longtime Nebraska Coach Ron Brown. There, Coach Brown deconstructed what it means to be a man and flipped it's secular head on to itself. The real tough men say no to alcohol, say no to drugs, say no to sleeping around, and say Yes to Jesus!

Episode 22 - Nate Ovenden - Divorce - “If you are not pursuing your wife, someone else will.”

Nate is a long-time resident of Sioux Falls, devoted husband, loving father, and employee at one the state’s largest organizations Sanford Hospital. Nate was recruited to the University of Sioux Falls to play football and experienced Jesus during his early collegiate experience. Nate and his ex-wife were married in college and were divorced shortly after. After years of counseling and Nate's journey towards self-sacrifice redemption was found. Nate is now married to his wife Jenna and they have two beautiful daughters. Nate & Jenna are leaders of a marriage life-group at Central Church and are consistently ringing the bell of pursuit towards God and each other. 

“If you are not pursuing your wife, someone else will.” One of the most profound sentences uttered on the Mandate Podcast. It would have been the easy button for Nate to blame his ex-wife for the divorce, however after years of pain, self-reflection, and counseling he came to the resolution that he was also at fault. We talk to Nate about sex after marriage and how he adamantly pursued Jesus instead of the desires of the flesh. “Sex outside of marriage causes pain.” So much more amazing content for men to hear from Nate. Imagine training 12 people to do a job professionally, all the hours poured into the actual technical skill and all the hours poured into the relationship, and then after they have been trained they tell you that they are leaving to start their own painting business.
