On today's show, we're talking about the future of government and how you can get involved. Our guest, Kathleen Chandler, joins us to discuss her new initiative, Find Your Seat, which aims to make it easier for people to find and apply for boards and commissions in their community. But before we dive into that, our host, Mandy Connell, shares her thoughts on the recent verdict in a high-profile murder case and how it relates to the value of motherhood and the importance of holding men accountable for their actions.
In this episode, we also discuss the upcoming ballot initiatives in Colorado, including Proposition NN, which would allow the state to retain and spend additional revenue for education and other purposes. Our guest, Barb Kirkmeyer, explains the complexities of this proposal and how it would impact taxpayers. We also hear from a listener who shares their concerns about the mill levy override in Douglas County and how it relates to property taxes.
But the conversation doesn't stop there. We also talk about the importance of parenting and how we're failing our kids by not teaching them basic values like kindness and respect. And, of course, we have our usual dose of dad jokes and trivia.

SO WHAT’S ON YOUR BALLOT? Barb Kirkmeyer (who should be running for Governor right now, just saying) is on at 1 to begin a series of talks on the ballot initiatives. She is chairing the NO on Prop NN so we will definitely start there, but we will eventually talk about all of them. We’ve got 14 on this year’s ballot! Here they are:
Amendment 81 — Law-enforcement communication with federal immigration authorities
Amendment 82 — Constitutional right to purchase/sell natural gas
Amendment 83 — Constitutional right to hunt and fish
Amendment 84 — Voter ID requirements for mail ballots
Amendment 85 — Plain-language ballot titles
Amendment 86 — Restrictions/requirements on off-cycle congressional redistricting
Amendment 87 — Graduated state income tax
Proposition 132 — Increased penalties for fentanyl crimes
Proposition 133 — Increased penalties for human trafficking of minors
Proposition 134 — Male/female participation rules for school and collegiate sports
Proposition 135 — Prohibit certain surgeries on minors related to sex/gender
Proposition 136 — Limit the state income-tax rate
Proposition 137 — Direct sporting-goods sales-tax revenue to conservation
Proposition NN — Allow the state to retain/spend additional revenue for education and other purposes.
We’re talking about the money grab that is Prop NN at 1. I am already working on my voter guide for this year. I hope people pay attention to it THIS TIME.

PAID PARKING SUCKS But is finding a parking space in Olde Town Arvada too challenging to allow FREE parking to continue? That is what the city is saying but business owners are singing a much different tune. As Arvada moves in a very undercover way to bring paid parking to downtown, I’ve got Chris Spears from Outside the Box and Outside the Box Too and Ali from Mermaid Walking on today at 2:30 to talk about the potential impact.
