I'M HAVING VOCAL CORD SURGERY TOMORROW And the recovery is a long, slow process. I have a fibrous lesion on my vocal cords that is likely the result of an old vocal injury and frankly, my voice hurts. By the time I get done with the show every day my voice is shot and I've got to get this taken care of. It's why I've had to outsource "IN THE WORLD" for Of the Day. An image of my actual vocal cords for you is at MandysBlog.com. That white part is NOT supposed to be there and has to be removed. I'll be completely silent for the first week before I begin to use my voice a little bit at a time. The entire healing process will take about six months, but I will be back, whatever that sounds like, on July 7th. My surgeon is the most excellent Dr. David Opperman, who did Ross's surgery as well, so I'm in very, very good hands. He's joining me on the show to talk about it at 12:10 to give all the details.
