Thoughts from your host…
Now and then, you gotta mix it up.
Much as I’m a believer in structure and framework for media like podcasts, even I have to admit that when we threw much of the normal beats out the window for this episode, what we got was something that was a lot of fun…and probably much better than what I was expecting.
So the questions are out of order, the songs are switched up, the third act is completely different, and what starts as a one-on-one conversation quickly turns into a trio. So as I give my thanks to Lindsay for jumping into the fray uninvited, I send a wish to you fine listeners that a break in the routine makes for something special in your earbuds.

Thoughts from your host…
Now and then I try to get some new blood into the show. Sometimes it’s been co-workers, other times family members. Friends-of-friends have dropped by, and likewise people I have only known as avatars.
In-the-moment, the results feel like that moment at a party when you discover someone you don’t know THAT well likes something you do. Listening back to these episodes, the results come with a specific joyful energy to them. Many of these guests aren’t the sort who feel the need to make their every last thought and whim about film known, so in a way, I get to coax out of them conversations they don’t have sixteen times over (the way I do).
Just such a person is at the centre of this episode, and I’m honoured she accepted my invite to drop by and talk all things Diana Prince.
Now I’m left thinking both that this guest should get herself behind a mic more often, and that I should look for guests of her ilk more often…or even find something to record about that’s more all-encompassing, and could bring such people on more often!
So – do enjoy one more conversation about the highest-profile superhero of the summer, and tell me if you can hear the joy we get from freshly-baked cookies.
Thanks for tuning into episode one-hundred-seventy-eight.

Hey gang. Been a while. How’s things? How’s the family?
You might have noticed that I went and took myself a little unscheduled break; three whole weeks of no writing and no recording. I found myself a bit busy – soaking up a little bit more of what life has to offer outside of the cinema. In a perfect world, I might have made mention of my little sabbatical…or even covered the gap with some sort of bonus material.
…but sometimes, you just need to take off for a while without leaving a note.
So while I’m sorry that I ducked out on you fine folks that have helped make this space something special to me for nearly ten years now, I do return to it without regret. I even return to it, knowing that there will be one more short break coming!
Taking a breather and taking in what life has to offer are important things, dear listeners. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
As for getting the podcast back up-and-running, I can’t think of a better way to do so than with the pure joy that comes with my Birthday Episode, talk of an all-time-favorite film, and the company of a great friend.
Someone mentioned to me today that there’s a certain joy in my voice when I talk about things that I love…and if that’s true, prepare yourself for seventy-six minutes of certain joy.
Thanks for sticking around, and thanks tuning into episode one-hundred-seventy-seven.

So many dark clouds come with a silver lining.
Just a few weeks ago, I had a podcast episode get riddled with technical difficulties. Nothing that’s ever happened to the show before or since, just gremlins in the works.
The dark cloud was a “less than perfect” episode of the podcast that was published with a first time guest.
But then there was the silver lining:
A reunion of guest and host on a perfect spring afternoon over bacon, eggs, and french toast. A nudge towards a springtime release that might otherwise have been lost in the shuffle. A wonderful conversation, that otherwise might have been many more months or even years in the making.
Bascially, from the ashes of one of my least favorite episode in a long time, comes one of my most favorite in a long time.
Silver linings.

Thoughts from your host…
Confession: For about a year or so, I had mentally circled this episode for THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS.
As you may or may not know, I have never watched a FAST film…and for about a year or so, I had dabbled with the idea of catching-up on the entire franchise. I had thoughts of spending time on each film, seeing what y’all were so enamoured with, and creating some form of content around it. It might have been a series of posts, might have even been a podcast miniseries.
But even if it was just watching the films alone, and then making FATE OF THE FURIOUS my first theatrical experience…I figured this would be an episode where I talked about action sequences.
But here I am instead, doing what I usually do, dedicating an episode to a smaller seen arty film that has ups and downs and is difficult to classify as “good” or “bad”.
I’m good with that. I like bringing people on to pick apart something small in the hopes that even if you fine folks don’t listen to it now, perhaps you eventually will. Because I may not know much, but I know this; Much as I enjoy my blockbusters, there’s precious little to say about them two weeks after their release.
The films my guests are good enough to spend time with me picking apart? They’re the sort of things that merit further consideration…for better or for worse.
Thanks for continuing to be a part of it in the face of flights, fights, tights, and furious nights.
Thanks for tuning into episode one-hundred-seventy-five.
